The People's Emergency Briefing film

A film presented by Chris Packham, now screening in communities and workplaces across the UK to raise awareness and build public support for a government-led briefing on the climate and nature crisis.

The aim of the film is to bring together people in local communities to hear the evidence and discuss how to respond.

Jane Haining, remembered in the Calendar of the Scottish Episcopal Church as Missionary and Martyr, has been added to a memorial wall at Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Haining, who was the matron of the Church of Scotland's mission school in Budapest refused repeated requests to leave Hungary during the Second World War, choosing instead to remain with the Jewish and Christian girls in her care. On one of the occasions she was asked to return to the Scotland, she responded: “If children need me in the days of sunshine, how much more do they need me in the days of darkness?”

She was arrested by the N***s in 1944 and transported to Auschwitz where she died later that year. The memorial to which her name has been added remembers prisoners for whom no registration photograph survives. Haining remains the only Scot recognised by Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations for her efforts to protect Jewish people during the Holocaust.

She was added to the SEC's Calendar in 2021 following a vote of the General Synod.

Each connection makes a difference.

Luke’s Larder is looking for a friendly, enthusiastic Team Member to help us create a warm, welcoming space for our Auchmuty, Warout and wider Glenrothes community. If you enjoy meeting people, supporting community food activities and being part of a positive team, we’d love to hear from you.

You’ll help with welcoming visitors, preparing simple food, supporting the Community Pantry and keeping our spaces running smoothly.

Fixed‑term post funded until 31 March 2027, with possible extension if funding continues. Up to 15 hours per week across three days – £13.45 per hour (The Real Living Wage)

Unfortunately, at some point on Friday evening / early hours of Saturday we had some uninvited guests who forced entry to St. Luke’s, Central Fife Centre of Mission and caused damage to both our community and worship spaces. They left our fridge and freezer open - spoiling food for our community, damaged important items, broke into the office and stole keys. Police have been contacted and are actively looking into this incident however if you saw or heard anything that could assist us, please get in touch.
