This week’s bulletin stresses again that nothing will change if the proposed merger goes ahead. If that’s the case, why merge at all???

St Patrick’s will be paying its own bills, yet the parish will no longer exist?
Religious services will still take place but what parish will attendees belong to?
If anyone can make sense of this, feel free to comment …..

Please sign the petition to save Our Holy Redeemer in Clydebank from closure/merger. Like ourselves, they have an alleged repair bill of £2million. Seems to be a common theme 😡

The Archdiocesan decree below is the biggest threat that St Patrick’s Parish has faced in its 175 year history. A parish that has survived 2 World Wars, the Great Depression, 2 global pandemics and the destruction of Anderston could have its history and heritage obliterated within the next few months.

If you allow St Patrick’s Parish to close, it will be gone for good. There will be no more Easter and Christmas services spent within its familiar walls and no more blethering with a cup of tea after Mass. Your baptisms, first communions, weddings and funerals will take place elsewhere.

Your ancestors and mine gave everything they had to build up this parish. It is up to us, their descendants, to save it. They would have moved heaven and earth to keep St Patrick’s open. Will you? …….

Angela 🙏

This is the Archdiocesan decree regarding the division of St Patrick’s parish between the Cathedral and St Peter’s. A copy is displayed on the notice boards of each of the 3 churches but not on their websites or social media pages.
If you wish to exercise your right to reply to this proposal, it must be done before 21st January.
Please send your response to the Archdiocese and not to the 3 parishes. Thank you 🙏

If you wish to challenge the Archdiocesan decree about the “merger” of St Patrick’s, please call, email or write before 21st January.

13/01/2026

A decree about the “merger” of St Patrick’s with neighbouring parishes was issued on 11th January and was placed on the noticeboard at the back of the church. Other churches in a similar situation have shared the decree on their website and/or social media pages.
On the ones I’ve seen, anyone wishing to challenge the mergers is asked to do so within 10 canonical days. I assume the same will apply to us.
If you have any objections to the “merger” of St Patrick’s, please contact the Archdiocese as soon as possible. Thank you

The picture below is from this week’s parish bulletin. It seems the “merger” will be happening in April.
We will need to step up our campaign considerably. In the meantime, please continue to make your views known to the Archdiocese.
Also, please share this post far and wide to reach as many parishioners and ex-parishioners as possible. Thank you 🙏
