Update on Future of St Leo’s

As people will be aware, the Parish Council met with Archbishop Nolan on 12th June to discuss the future of the parish once Fr Gerry retires on 25th October.
Archbishop Nolan confirmed that at that date Fr Mackle will become parish priest of St Leo’s, as well as of Our Lady of Lourdes parish. In view of the reducing number of priests in the Archdiocese, the intention will be that the two parishes will eventually merge but in the meantime the parishes will remain separate but share one parish priest. The timescale is however likely to be defined by the availability of a priest to celebrate Mass at St Leo’s.
The process and details of the merger will be discussed with the parishioners and parish councils of both parishes before the merger proposal is put to the Council of Priests possibly at their September meeting.
In the meantime, Mass will continue to be celebrated at St Leo’s as usual by Fr Gerry until he retires and thereafter on Sundays by the curate who is currently resident at Our Lady of Lourdes. The expectation at this time is that St Leo’s will remain open for up to two years

Just a reminder that there is a concert on tonight at Bellahouston Park which is affecting vehicle access to St Leo's. If you have an access permit, please have it in your car. If you don't have an access permit, please tell the stewards you are coming to Mass

Just a heads-up that we will be selling plants after Masses this weekend. Normally we do this at the same time as having a BBQ but that will not be possible this time round. Lots of lovely plants anyway so please come and buy.

Two anniversaries to remember

Fr Hugh (Shuggie) O'Donnell died a year ago today (11 June). He was well know and fondly remembered in St Leo's where he often supplied for Fr Gerry.

Cardinal Thomas J Winning who died 25 years ago on 17 June 2001 and sadly missed in the Archdiocese and beyond.

It is with great sadness we have to report the death this morning of Paul McKeown, the Chair of our Pastoral Council. We would ask that you pray for the peaceful repose of his soul and for the comforting of his family as they mourn their loss.
