Feedback from the 'Celtic Wisdom for the 21st Century' retreat in 2024 was fantastic: 'Wonderful to be fed and led so richly ... Terrific ... so helpful and practical ...beyond expectations ... thought-provoking and stimulating'.

So delighted that Scott Brennan is returning to provide another opportunity to dig into the rich legacy of the Celtic missionaries to this part of the world - and find powerful insights and wisdom for the present day.

Last week's Mountain Pilgrimage retreat coincided with glorious weather. Some took to the hills; others explored the Celtic rainforest and coastline.

A rich mix of meeting God in creation, fellowship and solitude, slowing down and striding out, silence and conversation. (thanks to Richard Tiplady for mountain photos).

'Amazing week, fabulous programme, great fellowship and wall-to-wall sunshine' ... a typical comment in the visitors book from last week's 'Look at the Birds' retreat.

Many thanks to Mark and Sheila from www.evensparrows.co.uk for memorable times of worship, inspiring conversations and helping is to enjoy and learn about birds - from massive eagles to tiny treecreepers and everything in between.

The next 'Look at the Birds' retreat is here https://www.abernethy.org.uk/event/autumn-birdwatching-retreat-26/

End of an era ... as our dear friend and colleague, James Campbell, retires from our team at Abernethy Kilmalieu - after more than 15 years of faithful service as Maintenance Manager. We have really valued James' diligence in his work, but also his great sense of humour, his deep faith and love of the outdoors.

It's good to pay attention to the tiny things in creation ... but sometimes we need to lift our eyes, look at the big picture, marvel at the interconnectedness, scale and beauty of it all. '... all things were created through him and for him ... in him all things hold together' (Col. 1:17).

We’re very excited that the amazing Fiona Crudgington is raising funds for Abernethy to host a group of Ukrainian children this August.

The trip will give the Ukrainian children a break from the horrors of war to enjoy two weeks of respite, joy and adventure in Scotland.

Starting in just 1 months’ time, Fiona will be taking on the massive challenge of cycling 1800 miles across Europe from the Ukrainian border to Abernethy Barcaple. She aims to complete the journey in six weeks!

Follow her training and her journey at www.instagram.com/bordertobarcaple and sponsor her here: www.justgiving.com/page/fiona-crudgington-2026

Fiona said ‘As crazy as this challenge may sound, the more I plan and pray, the more excited I become.’

While working as an instructor at Abernethy Barcaple in 2024, Fiona was part of the team that welcomed the first group of Ukrainian children and their teachers to visit for some much needed respite. Their visit left a lasting impact on her life and after another group visited in 2025, she felt deeply called to take on a challenge to help raise funds for more children to visit in 2026. She saw the immensely positive impact the trip had for them.

Thank you Fiona (and Lochie the dog)!!
