What an experience, walking in the footsteps of Jesus. On Maundy Thursday recreating the Passover, the last supper a meal Jesus had with his discipleship.
Based on archaeological research and historical context, the Last Supper likely included roasted lamb, bean stew, unleavened bread, bitter herbs, olives, dates. As a Passover meal, it also included wine, as mentioned in the Gospels.
This was held outside in the church yard around the fire, throughout the meal there were reading to help reflect on what those who gathered with Jesus and Jesus himself may have been thinking and the emotions felt.
After the super we entered church for the Maundy service led by Rev Morna and Rev Yvonne, and choir, with a sermon based on Jesus teach of 'compassion acceptance of differences and loving one another' this also included washing of feet, when Jesus washes the disciples' feet in John 13, it symbolizes ultimate humility, selfless service, and spiritual cleansing. It reverses social hierarchy.
Also stripping of the Altar marking the transition into Good Friday. It involves removing all linens, books, candles, and decorations from the altar, leaving it bare. This act symbolizes Jesus being stripped of his garments, abandoned by his disciples, and humiliated before his crucifixion, leaving in silence to carry out a watch around the fire..
Watching on Maundy Thursday is a solemn tradition of silent prayer and adoration following the evening service, held to symbolically accompany Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane before his arrest. It fulfills his request to the disciples to "stay with me".
Many of the church and wider community joined together and experienced the amazing fellowship, a sense of history, a time of reflection being together in a caring loving atmosphere.
