'The summer of 2026 should be a wake-up call for those of us in Britain. The climate crisis has arrived, and if we are serious when we say we are called to do justice then climate action must be central to everything we do.'

Read a reflection from The Methodist Church’s Net Zero Engagement Officer, Jack Slater-Wells, who writes amid record-breaking heat waves, droughts and wildfires affecting much of the UK. Read now at methodist.org.uk/about/our-stories/this-summer-is-a-wake-up-call-for-climate-action/

Join us in a prayer for Colombia, as British Methodists are encouraged to hold the people of Colombia in prayer after a powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck the west of the country on 10 August.

Loving God,
We hold the people of Colombia before you today.
We pray for those who are grieving, for those who have been injured, and for those whose homes, livelihoods and communities have been affected by the earthquake.
We give thanks for the courage, compassion and resilience being shown by neighbours, community leaders, emergency responders and churches as they care for one another. Strengthen all those who are responding to this crisis.
We pray especially for the Colombian Methodist Church as it accompanies communities, joining in with the work of recovery and offering your hope to the people they encounter.
Keep us mindful that we are one body in Christ. As communities across Colombia respond with resilience and compassion, help us in Britain to join with them in prayer, friendship and hope.
Amen.

“God has a vision, a dream, an imagining of who we could be, how we could be, what we could be – each one of us, all of us together, sharing holiness and demanding justice, making better people and a better world...”

The Revd Mark Slaney, President of the Methodist Conference treated us to a musical performance to open his address, followed by a continuing exploration of this year’s Presidential theme: Sorrow and Joy.

Reflecting on his visit to the Holy Land, he called for us to stand in solidarity and witness - acting for something better, for something just, and something of how we could be together reflecting the image of Jesus.

“God is good - all the time.
All the time - God is Good!”

In her address to the Conference, Caroline Stead, the Vice-President of the Methodist Conference, shared a powerful reflection on the joy and sorrow mingled together in our lives and throughout the Bible. As a lay person and passionate advocate for inclusive spaces, she shared an image of evangelism for all and celebrating the importance of lay people.
