This Sunday Discovery is having a wee walk at Whitekirk Hill. There will be a short reflection and we will take a little time to pray for the people and places where we live. Then just generally enjoy conversation together out in nature.
The weather is variable so bring water/windproofs and your own hot drink.
We will meet in the Whitekirk Hill Resort overflow car park at 10.30am.
Everyone welcome, including dogs. 🐶😊

We send our love and sympathies to those in our local community as well as those further afield who knew and loved Father Allan Ocdenaria, and join in their prayers during such a sad time.

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Fr Allan Ocdenaria who died peacefully in the early hours of this morning. He was 56.

Fr Allan served at Our Lady Star of the Sea, North Berwick and Our Lady of the Waves in Dunbar since 2023. He has ministered in the Archdiocese since 2007, beginning at St Luke & St Anne's in Dalkeith, St Mary's Cathedral, St John the Baptist in Fauldhouse, and St Matthew’s, Rosewell-Bonnyrigg-Gorebridge.

Allan Fernando Banga Ocdenaria was born in the Philippines on 30 May 1969 and grew up there. He was ordained to the priesthood in 2000 and later became incardinated into our Archdiocese. He celebrated the Silver Jubilee of his ordination last year. Fr Allan served faithfully, quietly and was known for his great kindness and devotion. He had been ill for some time and died at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh.

Holy Mass for the repose of his soul will take place at Our Lady Star of the Sea on Wednesday 27 May at 7:00pm. Funeral details will be shared in due course.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

“When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, ‘Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today.’ So he hurried down and was happy to welcome him.” (Luke 19: 5-6)

God who made trees and bodies,
God who made the ground and grand gestures,
May we practice happy hospitality,
because here,
hostilities can be healed.
Amen.

This Sunday we’re gathering for an hour in Lochend Woods, meeting at 10.30am on the corner of Middlemas Road and Kellie Road then aiming for the yew tree circle in the woods.
Come join us to find shelter in the woods and in the stories of Jesus.

We’re going on a reflective walk this Sunday, meeting at 10.30am at John Muir Country Park by the car park.
At the moment it looks like it’ll be dry, but come prepared for whatever the weather might offer!
You might like to bring a hot drink to sip as we go too. We’ll bring the biscuits!

Everyone is welcome, always.

BEFORE ELECTION DAY

Lord of truth and justice,
as our community prepares to choose its leaders,
guard our hearts from apathy and cynicism.

Open our eyes to discernment,
our voices to honesty,
our hands to responsibility.
Give integrity to candidates,
wisdom to voters,
peace to our land.

Let debates be rooted in respect,
and decisions in concern for the most vulnerable.
When the results are in,
help us work together for the common good,
trusting that Your Kingdom
is greater than any earthly power.

Amen.

Here’s all the essential info about this Sunday’s gathering with Discovery!
We’re meeting at 3.30pm by the car park at John Muir, where our friendly neighbourhood Surfers Against Sewage rep Brian Allen⁩ will get us kitted up to do a short beach clean for around 30-40 minutes. Afterwards we’ll gather in the fire pit area for hot drinks and snacks, and a short reflection. You might like to bring a camping chair for that bit!
Do dress for the weather on the day - it might be a bit showery.
Everyone is welcome, so if you know anyone who might enjoy mucking in with a short beach clean do invite them to join in!

A beautiful prayer for the end of the day:

AT SUNSET

Lord of endings and of rest,
as the sky burns into gold and purple.
I lay down the weight of this day.
The unfinished tasks,
the spoken and unspoken words,
the sorrows I carry—
I place them into your hands.

Teach me that night is not absence,
but renewal,
a place where seeds germinate unseen.
Keep watch with me in the quiet,
and carry me safely through the dark,
until morning comes again.

Amen
