Come and join Wantage Methodist Church to reflect on how we can better welcome international friends.

The church will be open for their ‘For a Time’ exhibition and film (a selection of stories about how we can better support asylum seekers in our community) on Saturday 23 November (drop in between 10am and noon) or Sunday 24 November (morning service at 10.30am, exhibition from 3pm, afternoon service at 4pm).

Everyone welcome, refreshments provided.

The mission and ministry of our chaplains is very varied, and each member of our team has a vital role to play. Here's a snapshot of our Anna Chaplain, Wendy, and our canine chaplain, Tilly's, work last week, on a visit to one of the four homes Wendy visits.

Congratulations to June, our newest Community Chaplain!

Most of June's chaplaincy is centred around Elm brook Care Home in Wantage, but those of you who know chaplaincy, knows that her mission and ministry is far wider than that.

Prayers and blessings for June as she begins this next enters this next stage of vocation.

Really looking forward to starting back at International Cafe tomorrow. It's one of the highlights of my week, meeting people from around the world, sharing stories, occasionally sharing food, and sharing lots of laughter. I highly recommend it.

For anyone interested, this is happening in October.

Busiest ECHO Youth Café yet this afternoon - loads of cake, great conversations, games, and chat. We had 99 young people pop by this afternoon, most of whom stayed for the games and chat!

We've just written our next update on chaplaincy in the circuit. Let me know if you'd like a copy. Highlights include my becoming an accredited Local Preacher (and my first service as a fully accredited preacher), civic engagement, a donkey, and cake.

(Resharing as requested)

We know there are a lot of poorly insulated homes in and around Oxfordshire. With the continuing high costs of energy, making your home cheaper and easier to keep warm is more important than ever, so we want to make sure everyone who needs it knows there are fully-funded energy efficiency upgrades for eligible homes.

If you know of someone whose home could use some upgrades, and it isn't heated by gas, the county council currently have funding which may help. Visit welcomethewarmth.org.uk to find out more.

If their home is supplied by gas, keep an eye on the council’s retrofit pages for future schemes, or register your interest at oxfordshire.gov.uk/retrofit

Retrofit: making changes to your home to reduce energy use and save money.

On Monday, I had the opportunity to go to a day's training on eco theology and trauma theology. It was a fascinating day of learning held at Cuddesdon with talks from The Right Reverend Olivia Graham (who spoke about extreme weather and eschatology), Dr Tim Middleton (who spoke about trauma theology and the earth's response to the crucifixion), and Dr Celia Deane-Drummond (who spoke about hope and eco theology).

It was a good opportunity to think about how we can respond as Christians, theologians, chaplains, and/or churches to some of the very fundamental climate concerns in our times. It was also a good opportunity to network with folk from across Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and further afield, and nice to see some familiar faces from the circuit and from the area.

If you'd like to know more, please get in touch! Libby is in the process of putting a summary reflection of the day together, which will include some links.
