Becontree Avenue Baptist Church

Becontree Avenue Baptist Church We are a small, caring and friendly fellowship. If you are looking for a friendly, welcoming place t Brown.

We are a small, caring and friendly fellowship on the border of East London and Essex. If you are looking for a friendly, welcoming place to worship God or simply want to find out more about Christianity, who God is and what He thinks about you then you've come to the right place. None of us are perfect... but we know a perfect God who is interested in you personally! OUR PAST~ Our Church came in

to being in 1929 when the Becontree Estate (once the largest council housing estate in the world) was built in East London by the London County Council- in part for the families of soldiers who had served in World War 1. In the 1960's the then innovative "Dagenham Scheme" saw all four of the Baptist Churches of Dagenham join together under a senior minister Rev J.J. Today each of the four Baptist Churches serve God independently whilst continuing to support and encourage each other. In 1964, a new church building was erected in Becontree Avenue. The old church building becoming our Church Hall which is now used both for church activities and in a very limited way by community groups as part of our outreach community “bridge building”. OUR PRESENT~ As already said, we are a small, caring and friendly fellowship with about 30~35 people regularly attending Sunday morning services, currently ranging in age from about 1 to 85 years is fairly traditional in style with a mixture both old and modern songs taken from “Songs & Hymns of Fellowship” and accompanied by a keyboard. Songs and readings are projected onto a screen with hymn books and the NIV Bibles also available if required. The morning sermon is usually recorded and available to download (see below). The church building has a loop system for those with hearing difficulties and we naturally welcome anyone to worship God with us- our buildings which comply with current government disability access requirements. We also meet Sunday evenings for informal worship as well as Wednesday evenings for fellowship, Prayer and Bible study. Our various social activities throughout the week are (God willing) intended to build links between our fellowship and our local community. We are members of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the Eastern Baptist Association and occasionally join with friends at the other Baptist churches in Dagenham providing opportunities for the local Baptist churches to come together and support each other through both through prayer and encouragement.
