St Luke's Church Woodside

St Luke's Church Woodside St Luke's Woodside is a vibrant Anglican Church in London SE25. We seek to be a Church for the whole community. Prayer and worship is at the heart of our life.

Our main Sunday service is the 10am Parish Eucharist, which we also livestream. Midweek, we celebrate the Eucharist on Tuesdays at 7.30pm (on Zoom) and Wednesdays at 10am (in Church). All are welcome.

Tomorrow we celebrate Corpus Christi, the day of thanksgiving for Holy Communion. It's a beautiful festival where we give thanks for the presence of Jesus in Holy Communion, and how we are fed spiritually for our pilgrimage through life. It's also a time to think about our calling as a church to be the Body of Christ in our neighbourhood.

The Eucharist will be at 7.30pm on Thursday 4th June and we will welcome back Mother Charlotte Middleton as our preacher.

As part of the service, we have a procession through a carpet of flowers. Thank you to everyone who has donated petals from their gardens. Its not too late to drop them off at church. Please bring petals to church before 1pm on Thursday 4th June.

It was wonderful to be at St Mark's, South Norwood last night to welcome Mother Jessie as the new parish priest for St Mark's and Holy Innocents.

I pray that we will be good neighbours, working together to be a blessing to South Norwood and share the good news with our community.

The final joy of today was to welcome The Revd Jessie Daniels White back to by collating her as Vicar of Holy Innocents and St Mark South Norwood - supported by The Worshipful Mayor of Croydon, other civic colleagues, and ecumenical and interfaith partners - Deo gratias!

After our 10am service in St Luke’s, we will head over to Woodside Green for a bring and share lunch (you might prefer to bring your own food!) There will be a bouncy castle for children, a face painter and a lucky dip!

This Wednesday is our monthly Choral Evensong.
We will have some beautiful music on the theme of Pentecost and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Evensong is a service of readings, psalms, choral pieces and hymns from the Book of Common Prayer. There are prayers, but there's no sermon, and it lasts around 45 minutes.

The choir does a lot of the work, so the rest of the congregation has space to reflect, pray and slow down - and join in with as much of the congregational singing and responses as feels right.

After Evensong, refreshments will be served in the vicarage garden, next door. All are very welcome!

Woodside arrives at Westcott!
As Fr Sam approaches 15 years since leaving it was good to return to Cambridge with a small group from St Luke's - to pray for vocations in the Church, and the vocation of the Church, visit and some other colleges.

Thank you for your hospitality on a glorious Bank Holiday weekend, in the midst of exam season!

A wonderful Pentecost celebration at St Luke’s this morning. Plenty of people remembered to come in flame coloured clothing! 🔥

We had an inspiring sermon from Brother Tobias SSF, about the surprise, disruption, connection and translation the Holy Spirit brings to us.

May we be a community of hope, translating the joy of the gospel to all in our neighbourhood.
Come, Holy Spirit! 🔥 🕊 ⛲ ❤ 🔥

Celebrate Pentecost this Sunday at 10am!

It's the day when we give thanks for the gift of the Holy Spirit, and the beginnings of the Church. The Holy Spirit transformed the lives of the first disciples, and can transform our lives and communities today.

We welcome back Brother Tobias from the Society of St Francis as our preacher at the 10am Parish Eucharist.

Groups will be running for children during the morning service.

May we always be open to the guidance and empowerment of the Holy Spirit; and may we grow as a community in the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Today was our Annual Parochial Church Meeting.
I much prefer having this meeting in Eastertide, and not Lent (like it was in the past). Practically you can focus on Holy Week without worry about getting everything ready for the meeting. But also the Eastertide readings about the Resurrection and from the early chapters of Acts remind us about our calling and real purpose.

Here's a photo of 13/16 elected on to our new PCC.
Hopefully we will be able to get a photo with everyone soon!

We pray for our PCC - to be guided by the Holy Spirit- to focus on what matters most, to grow in the fruit of grace, and to joyfully witness to the Gospel in Woodside.
