John 16:22 • From Sorrow to Unshakable Joy

Jesus reminds us in John 16:22 that sorrow is not the end of our story. God is working even in our pain, preparing a joy that cannot be taken away.

'Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.'
- John 16:22

In times of sorrow, it can be hard to convince ourselves things will get better. Sadness tends to breed itself, stringing us along in a cycle of oppression.

However, this is a lie from the enemy!

We all have infinite joy to look forward to, secured by what Jesus did for us on the cross. This is something nothing and no one can take away from you. Whenever you are feeling sad, anticipate being happy again. This helps remove the sting and bitterness of the pain because it reminds you it is only temporary.

Life will always have its trials, but pain can indeed serve a higher purpose. The suffering we endure in this life forces us to turn to the Lord and rely on Him, refining us spiritually. The sorrow and pain you face will never be wasted.

God can turn what the enemy meant for evil into good. He can turn what the devil has ruined into something beautiful.

Keep your eyes on the promises of the Lord and the eternal joy that awaits you in heaven.

Even now, you can use the opportunities when you are sorrowful to grow in your relationship with God. In His presence, there is fullness of joy!

Prayer:

Lord, You see the places in my heart that feel heavy and uncertain. Thank You for reminding me that sorrow is not the end of my story. Help me trust that You are working even now, preparing a joy that cannot be taken away. Strengthen my faith while I wait, and fill me with peace in the process. Amen.

Genesis 40:23 • When You Feel Forgotten

Joseph helped, served, and trusted—yet he was forgotten. Genesis 40:23 reminds us that even when people forget us, God never does.

'Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.' - Genesis 40:23

Joseph had done everything right. In prison, yet running the prison, God's favour followed Joseph wherever he went. When two of his fellow inmates need their dreams interpreted, God gives Joseph insight. Interpreting both dreams, Joseph tells Pharaoh’s cupbearer, one of the two inmates, that when Pharaoh restores you, "remember me, when it is well with you, and please do me the kindness to mention me to Pharaoh, and so get me out of this house" (vs. 14).

The interpretation proves true; the cupbearer is restored to Pharaoh’s court. And Joseph... Joseph is forgotten, "Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him" (vs. 23). For two more years, Joseph sits in prison. Joseph was forgotten; he was overlooked.

But, Joseph was handpicked by God.

Overlooked by everyone else, Joseph was handpicked by God.

In this way, you, I, and Joseph are a lot alike.

John 15:16 says, "You did not choose me, but I [Jesus] chose you and appointed you..."

Ephesians 2:10 says, "we are his [Gods] workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

Psalm 139:14 declares that you and I are "fearfully and wonderfully made."

Perhaps you woke up today feeling forgotten, feeling overlooked. Take heart, overlooked by everyone else, you were handpicked by God! This should shape how you go about your day. Nothing you do is ordinary. Nothing you do is inconsequential. Instead, whatever you do, do all to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31). Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men (Colossians 3:23).

You are chosen by God for the work of God, no matter what that work is. Overlooked by everyone else, you were handpicked by God— go and live like it!

What should I do when I feel forgotten?

Stay consistent, keep serving, and trust that God’s timing is purposeful—even when it’s slow.

Prayer

God, in moments when I feel forgotten, remind me that You never lose sight of me. Help me stay faithful even when no one notices and trust Your timing over my own expectations. Strengthen my heart so I don’t grow weary in waiting. Teach me to rest in the truth that You are always working, even in the silence. Amen.
