The Latin parish priest of the last entirely Christian village in the West Bank appealed for the solidarity of Christians worldwide in the face of new attacks by “fanatical Israeli settlers” seeking to displace the local population.

Father Bashar Fawadleh issued an appeal on Saturday, March 21, telling ACI Prensa, the Spanish-language sister service of EWTN News, that the lands seized this week by Israeli settlers “belonged to the people of Taybeh and were, moreover, our private property.”

Statement by the Spokesperson
Jerusalem 31 December 2025

With reference to the list of organizations denied re-registration due to the expiration of the interim period, the following must be emphasized:

Caritas Jerusalem is a humanitarian and development organization operating under the umbrella and governance of the Assembly of the Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land.

In Israel, Caritas Jerusalem is an Ecclesiastical Legal Person, whose status and mission have been recognized by the State of Israel through the 1993 Fundamental Agreement and the subsequent 1997 Legal Personality Agreement signed between the Holy See and the State of Israel.
Caritas Jerusalem has not undertaken any re-registration process with the Israeli authorities.
Caritas Internationalis does not implement or conduct any direct interventions within the country.
Caritas Jerusalem will continue its humanitarian and development operations in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem, in accordance with its mandate.

We look forward to serving and working with him to further embed Catholic Social Teaching and the Gospel of Life in our communities.
