This wek, hundreds of postcards from parishes, schools, religious communities and local groups across the UK were delivered to Downing Street. 💙

Together with the Caritas Social Action Network (CSAN), Caritas Diocese of Brentwood, Caritas Plymouth, and the St Vincent de Paul Society (England & Wales),we delivered a clear message to the Government: the right to seek asylum must be protected, and people seeking sanctuary must be treated with dignity.

Each postcard adds a voice to the Welcome the Stranger: Defend Asylum campaign, calling on the Government to restore the right to asylum, end immigration detention and put dignity and protection at the heart of the UK asylum system.

Thank you to everyone who has written a postcard and helped carry this message to Downing Street.

Today, on the International Day of Peace, we are reminded that peace is a commitment to justice, reconciliation, and nonviolence. As we begin the Catholic Nonviolence Days of Action, we join people around the world in choosing paths that reject violence and build communities where dignity, compassion, and dialogue can flourish. May these days inspire us to turn prayer into action, transform conflict through active nonviolence, and become peacemakers in our homes, communities, and world.

Peace is not simply the absence of war. It depends on the ability of societies to confront disagreement without violence, protect human rights and dignity, and keep dialogue open when tensions rise.

Today, conflict, displacement, discrimination, hate speech, backsliding on rights and polarization are fracturing communities and eroding trust.

On this , UNESCO calls for greater investment in the institutions, skills and relationships that allow societies to address tensions before they turn into violence.

For more than 80 years, UNESCO has worked to build peace through education, culture, freedom of expression and dialogue.

Peace is never secured once and for all. It is built through institutions, relationships and daily choices.
