St Mary's Church Hampstead Norreys

St Mary's Church Hampstead Norreys St Mary’s Church, a Grade 1 listed building, is located in the
heart of the village of Hampstead Norreys which was
mentioned in the Domesday Book.

It is a magnificent historic building that was built in the 12th century. It is one of the oldest buildings in the village and continues to be a main focal point for villagers. In the 15th century, the church was extended and the tower was added. The last major construction project was undertaken in 1880 when the vestry and chancel arch were added. The tower contains a ring of six bells in the key

of G. Five bells date from the 17th and 18th century. The 4th bell is listed in the Church Building Council’s “Schedule of Bells for reservation” in the Oxford Diocese. The church has an active group of bell ringers and the bells are rung for regular services as well as weddings and other special occasions.

We are delighted that the heating and lighting work has finished, and thanks to an amazing team effort this morning, the church is nearly clean and tidy once again.

We are looking forward to opening the doors in the next few days, and to welcoming you to All Age Praise at 11am next Sunday, 12th October.

A quick peek inside St Mary’s Church as the work continues to improve the heating and lighting.

We look forward to welcoming you to a warmer and better lit church very soon, but we still need to raise more money to complete the planned improvements to our beautiful church. Please do continue to support fundraising events - the next being ‘Come and Sing’ on 18th October.

Dear All,
As the church is closed for installation of new heating and lighting, we had planned to have an All Age Praise in the churchyard this Sunday. However, with the forecast being forecast to be pretty stormy it has been decided to cancel. We look forward to welcoming you to our warm, well lit church next month. Other services in the team this Sunday are:
Parish Communion at Cold Ash at 11:00
Parish Communion at Compton at 09:30
Holy Communion at Frilsham at 08:00
Parish Communion at Hermitage at 09:30
Morning Prayer at Yattendon at 11:00
I hope that you will be able to come to one of these service
Best wishes
Richard

Exciting News

As you may well be aware, the implementation of Phase 1 of Project Vision (new heating and lighting) is due to commence next Monday. In order for this to be undertaken safely, the church will be closed to all, other than contractors from the end of our communion service on Sunday 17th August. I will advise you of the reopening date in due course, though it is expected that the work will take around six weeks. The arrangements for services during the closure are set out below:

24 August no service

31 August Team service for the fifth Sunday in the month at Hermitage.

7 September Living Room at The Manor House

7 September Evensong in Hermitage

14th and 21st September outside

28th No service planned

Any changes to this plan will be notified to you. We are looking forward to having a warmer St Mary's as we come into the Autumn.
If you have any queries about these arrangements, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes

Wow, what a lovely afternoon we had at Summer Splash.

We are VERY grateful to all those who came and supported the event, as well as all the volunteers who set up, helped during the afternoon and cleared up; those who loaned their gazebos & more besides; our fantastic musicians (Scampy and The Pang Valley Pluckers) who gave their time so generously; and the local businesses who donated wonderful raffle prizes (Casey Fields Farm Shop at Vicars Game, Good Life Hub, The PantryYattendon, Yattendon Village Store, Calmingales Beauty, Hawkridge Distillers, Yattendon Estates, Lola - Lots Of Lovely Art and Flowers by Janet).

Lastly, but definitely not least, a huge thank you to the Betts family for allowing us the use of their beautiful swimming pond, and for everything they did to make the afternoon such a success.
