Newchurch, Culcheth is a Church of England church situated north of Warrington, within the Liverpool diocese. We welcome people of all ages, and our belief is that the message of the good news of Jesus Christ, is as relevant today as it ever was. Our aim is to help people to get to know Jesus better and we do this by having various services, groups and activities. This page aims to share details o

f our successes and to keep you up to date with future events. Newchurch Parish Church was originally a chapel-of-ease of the famous Norman church at Winwick. It was erected sometime around 1528 and was almost certainly originally built of wood. Nothing is known about the dedication of the church and the first record of a Rector is for Henry Abram who came in 1563. A new building, paid for by public subscription, was erected on the same site in 1743. Sadly this was badly damaged by fire in April 1903. The only part of the building not completely destroyed was the tower. The parish registers and the six bells were saved. The new ‘Newchurch’ was opened on 23rd July 1904 and consecrated a week later. The stained glass windows in the church are beautiful and a number have been dedicated to members of the congregation at the time of their installation. The window depicting Christ as the Good Shepherd with the lost sheep across His shoulders was dedicated to Thomas Ellames Withington who died on 1st March 1929 aged 71 years. Within the church is the Withington Chapel which is named after this Culcheth family.

Revd Martin Fuller

Our Assistant Curate, Martin will be ordained Priest on Saturday 20 June in Liverpool Cathedral by Bishop Ruth, Interim Bishop of Liverpool. The service will begin at 3.00pm. a coach has been booked to enable people from our parishes to travel together. A sign-up sheet has been placed in the entrance porch. Spaces are limited.

Martin will preside at Holy Communion for the first time at a special service on Sunday 21 June at 6.30pm at Christ Church, Croft. This will be followed by celebration refreshments in the church hall.

Please hold Martin in your prayers at this special time for him, his family and the wider church. As is tradition, Martin has prepared a prayer card for you to take home with you as you remember him in your prayers.
