Ascension Day, is this Thursday 14th May, when we celebrate the return of Jesus to heaven, 40 days after his resurrection. We hope you can join us for our said Eucharist, in church at 7:30pm. Here is part of the story from Acts: as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. While he was going and they were gazing up towards heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. They said, ‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up towards heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.’

Alleluia! Christ is Risen!

Jesus Christ is not dead, he is alive. Through his miraculous resurrection, sin and death have been defeated, and we have been reconciled to God. Our joy overflows, and we cannot be silent; we must cry out - he is risen indeed, Alleluia!

Good Friday is the day we remember the crucifixion and death of Jesus. It is a sombre day where we meet, pray and reflect on the cost of the great sacrifice of love: Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God and redeemer of the world. A prayer for today: crucified Lord, You gave Your life for me out of perfect love. Help me to understand the depth of Your sacrifice. May I carry my own cross with trust and gratitude. Amen

Maundy Thursday is the night Jesus showed what love looks like:
He knelt.
He served.
He loved in full knowledge of what was coming.
Not distant love.
Not easy love.
Love that stays.
Love that cleanses.
Love that takes the lowest place.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.” — John 13:34
💛 He didn’t just tell us to love.
He showed us how.

Today is Palm Sunday and the start of Holy Week. We hope you can join us at our services on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday - more details here: https://www.achurchnearyou.com/church/4203/service-and-events/easter/

A prayer for Palm Sunday:
Loving God,
Give us joy in our hearts as we shout Hosanna,
welcoming Jesus our King with palms,
celebrating all that we hope for as the Easter story unfolds.
Then, as the journey of Jesus turns towards Good Friday,
help us know that you are with us when celebration turns to sadness.
Give us the faith we need to follow you
on the way of the cross, which leads to life.
Amen

Do admire our new church sign, which we fitted ourselves this morning (despite a complete lack of instructions!), to keep costs down. We hope it will encourage new attendees to our services and weekly events, as well as visitors to our website and this page.

You're warmly invited to join the Pilgrim Course - an opportunity for us to explore the Christian faith together and see how it can be lived out each day. The course is suitable for everyone, whether already committed Christians, or just curious. The sessions will be friendly, supportive and informal, using resources provided by the Church of England. We are running two sessions each week, starting on 23rd February, both on Mondays: during the day: 12:30-2:30pm and in the evening: 7-9pm. The course is free and we'd love to see you, but please let us know if you intend to join, so we can order the course materials and provide enough refreshments: [email protected] or call: 01543 505706

Holy Jesus,
by being born one of us,
and lying humbly in a manger,
you show how much God loves the world.
Let the light of your love always shine in our hearts,
until we reach our home in heaven,
and see you on your throne of glory.
Amen.

We wish you and all your loved ones a very happy Christmas

Proposals for the closure of the church of St. Chad in our parish and invitation for representations.

The sister church to St. Aidan’s, St. Chad’s, Cannock Road has had regular worship suspended for many years due to severe structural problems with the building, which are not within the means of the parish, or fund raising efforts to repair. Further to previous announcements, there are proposals to sell the building to a local congregation (Living Springs Church, Cannock) of the Elim Pentecostal Church, who have the funds to make the repairs and re-open the building for worship.

The Church Commissioners of the Church of England invite interested parties to make representations about the proposals and we invite you to do so - more details about the proposals and how to make a representation at the link below. Please note all representations must be made by Monday 19th Jan, 2026

If you would like to view hard copies of the proposals, these are available locally at the Co-op convenience store at 83 Cannock Road WS11 5BU [corrected].
