🗓️ WHAT’S ON IN CHAPEL 🎶 (w/c Sunday 7th June)

The Chapel Choir is on leave this Sunday during the exam period, but will be back on Tuesday for an epic evensong of Brewer and Brahms! 🎵

Chapel news and events:

‼️ Save the date! The annual SCMS May Week concert will be taking place on Thursday 25th June at 5pm in Chapel. This programme of favourites will include Handel’s ‘Zadok the Priest’, a selection from Holst’s ‘Planets’ and Vaughan Williams’ ‘Five English Folksongs’.

🤲 Chapel collections this term will go to the Christian Fellowship Delhi. Contactless giving is available in the antechapel.

‼️ Save the date! The annual SCMS May Week concert will be taking place on Thursday 25th June at 5pm in Chapel. This programme of favourites will include Handel’s ‘Zadok the Priest’, a selection from Holst’s ‘Planets’ and Vaughan Williams’ ‘Five English Folksongs’.

🎶 SCMS Sunday concert: for our final Sunday evening concert at 8:30 in the Hall, soprano and SCMS Committee member Kit Attwater (Fitzwilliam) gives a solo recital, accompanied by Sam Trueman (Queens’). Free entry with a retiring collection.

‼️ Save the date! The annual SCMS May Week concert will be taking place on Thursday 25th June at 5pm in Chapel. This programme of favourites will include Handel’s ‘Zadok the Priest’, a selection from Holst’s ‘Planets’ and Vaughan Williams’ ‘Five English Folksongs’.

🕯️ On Monday 25th May at 8pm there will be an informal opportunity to remember Jaycee a year after his death. Chapel will remain open until midnight as usual for reflection and candle lighting.

🎶 SCMS Sunday concert: at 8:30 in the Hall, the joint winners of the college Williamson Prize - Elsa Chung and Samantha Gaspe - give a joint recital.

🗓️ WHAT’S ON IN CHAPEL 🎶 (w/c Sunday 10th May)

This week’s highlight: Ascension Day on Thursday! The choir will be singing early morning Matins from the Library Tower as well as Evensong in the evening. In between, our weekly organ recital will be given by our Junior Organ Scholar, Kim Chin, who will play Messiaen’s L’Ascension.

🎶 SCMS Sunday concert: at 8:30 in the Hall, there will be a flute recital given by Evie Hrydziuszko, a second-year music student at Homerton. Free entry with a retiring collection.

🗓️ WHAT’S ON IN CHAPEL 🎶 (w/c Sunday 3rd May)

Chapel is back in full swing for Easter term! We hope you can join our services in-person or through our livestreams.

This week’s highlight: Choral Compline on Wednesday 🕯️ Compline (from the Latin ‘completorium’, a service for the completion of the day) is the ancient service of night prayer, and will take place in a candlelit chapel and be followed by port and hot chocolate for all 🍷 ☕️

🎶 SCMS Sunday concert: at 8:30 in the Chapel, there will be a harpsichord recital given by Richard Taylor, a second-year musician at Magdalene. Free entry with a retiring collection.

The Chapel Choir has been busy filling the airwaves in the lead-up to Easter Term! 📻🎶

Last Wednesday, Choral Evensong was broadcast live on Radio 3. Highlights included the first performance of ‘Easter Victory’ by and John Rutter’s organ duet ‘Variations on an Easter Theme’ 🐣

Then on Sunday, BBC Radio 4 listeners were treated to a prerecorded service of Sunday Worship, featuring favourites like Hadley’s ‘My Beloved Spake’ and Lord of the Dance 🩰

Both episodes are available to stream on BBC Sounds!

Tune in to BBC Radio 3 tomorrow at 3pm to hear Choral Evensong broadcast live from Selwyn Chapel!

🗓️ WHAT’S ON IN CHAPEL 🎶 (w/c Sunday 15th March)

This week’s highlight: Sunday evening in Chapel our choir sings the entirety of Bach’s 11-movement motet ‘Jesu, meine Freude’, conducted by guest Andrew Lumsden, son of the late Sir David Lumsden (SE 1948).

🎶 SCMS Sunday concert: at 8:30 in the Hall, the Music Society presents a Night at the Musicals, featuring popular favourites from the stage and some orchestral numbers. Free entry with a retiring collection

📣 Acting Dean of Chapel: the Dean of Chapel will shortly go on maternity leave, at the end of term (from Thursday 19 March). We are pleased to announce the appointment of the Rev’d Jonathan Collins to cover her period of leave!
