Humanity was made in the image of God, independent of skin colour, s*x, creed or any distinguishing factor. We are made equally, we should be valued equally and have equal access to justice.
Racism is a sinful, hideous, pervasive distortion of humanity.
Climate injustice has this same grotesque distortion at its heart: a heart that says to anyone "Your life matters less than mine."
We stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter.
Father God, rid racism from the heart of all of us.
Let us see each other with Your loving eyes.
Put a new heart in us that cares for all others above ourselves.
Give us Your heart of solidarity that mourns with all those who mourn.
Help us to recognise the times that we've been ignorant, times we have benefited from, and times been complicit in, the oppression of others.
Father we repent.
No more.
Don't let us succumb to despair.
But fill us with Your hope.
Fill us with Your Kingdom vision of liberty for the oppressed: a world without racism; a world where people don’t live in fear of the injustice in systems that are supposed to uphold justice; a world where people aren’t ashamed to wear their hair the way You gave it to them.
Commit us, empowered by Your Spirit, to use whatever influence and privilege we each have to shine a light on racism; to stand up and speak out for rights, dignity and justice for all our black sisters and brothers, not just now, but throughout our lives.
Father, keep this conversation and these ears open; keep us listening to each other's experiences.
Deliver us from the evil of racism.
Make us one like You Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit are one.
