I have an enemy, and he's called Shame.

He walks close beside me, and he knows my name.

He whispers, "It's your fault. You played your part.

You better cover your dirty black heart."

I have a companion, and he's called Shame.

He walks close beside me, and he knows my name.

He says I'm boastful and full of pride.

My only way out is to be small and hide.

I have a friend, and he's called Shame.

He walks close beside me, and he knows my name.

He covers my back, my front and side.

He makes sure I know if I let the mask slide.

I have a deep flaw, and it's called shame.

It's deep inside me; it's in my brain.

But that doesn't matter because my armour is tight.

I'm covered entirely and ready to fight.

I have great armour covering my shame.

It muffles out the sound of it shouting my name.

I am not defeated or surviving but thriving; you'll see

How I'm courageous and resilient in my self-sufficiency.

I have a saviour. He knows my name.

He walks close beside me and removes the shame.

He says I was innocent. It wasn't my fault!

I couldn't have stopped it; Shame rubbed wounds with salt.

I have a friend, and he knows my name.

He's taken my hand, and he's taken the blame.

He says it is time to come out of hiding,

To remove the armour, it's time to start shining.

I have a companion, and He knows my name.

His spirit is in me. He brings comfort, not shame.

He strengthens with joy and love beyond measure,

He sets me free and calls me his treasure.

I have a Father; He has many a name.

He knows I feel naked without armour and shame,

He clothes me in feathers, protective and light,

restoring my gentleness as I rest in His might.

I have a promise I'll not be the same,

The Glory is coming for the sake of His Name.

I'll look like I'm proud, "Has she no sense of shame?"

No! He is dealt with. I'll not wear him again.

Cats - part 2! We now have a cat called Sionyn, although "have" is currently a bit of a stretch of the imagination! Over the last year, he's taken to wandering off days at a time, coming back rather full! In the vet's advice, we're careful how much we feed him. He's always been an excellent hunter and has even brought squirrels home - for a little takeaway on the side! He eats everything he catches. He went on another walkabout in the New Year, but this time, he didn't come back after a few days or a few weeks, and after a couple of months, with heavy hearts, we decided to pack up his bowl. Last night, as I was standing in the kitchen, in he strolled, meowing, and headed straight to where his bowl was kept, only then looking at me with great surprise that there was no food waiting...after four and a half months! After picking up my jaw from the floor, I looked at him to make sure he was keeping ok. There were no clues as to where Sionyn was hanging out, but it was clear that it was close to an ample food supply! He's huge! Practically Garfield.

Obviously, I'm so glad he's still alive, but I'm sad and slightly jealous. I'm jealous, wanting us to be the only ones feeding him. We chose his name and know when his vaccination dates are due. We know how much feed keeps him fit and healthy. I'm jealous that he's been tempted by the promise of a never-ending supply of treats that taste great but are causing him harm, rather than staying where he's loved enough to be given all he needs rather than what he wants. And I'm sad. Sad he's settling for a mediocre, sluggish existence rather than a life full of wonder and adventure.

What do I see? 🤔 I wonder! Am I that different from Sionyn?

A few years ago, God spoke to me through our cat. Now, to make it clear, the cat didn't talk! Narnia is one of my favourite films but ...! God "speaking" was more of a nudge to take notice. A "What do you see?" prompt, or in this case, a "What do you hear?". So, now that that's cleared up, back to the story. Sam (the cat) was being neutered, and the vet explained that it was typical for cats to become lazy after neutering and become content with being indoor cats, putting on weight, so watch how we feed him. "What do you hear?" "Umm, if he can't reproduce, he might just sit inside eating?" God answered (still in my spirit, not by a cat). Yes! That's what happens to my people. When they stop reproducing (making disciples), they stop inside, eating my word but doing nothing with it. They come fat cats."

This is going back around 10 years or so now. I didn't know what to do with it, but it has stopped with me. Recently, I read John 10 about the good shepherd and the sheep knowing His voice. Something struck me: "The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out." He leads them out! They need to recognise his voice because they're leaving the gathering pen. The pen is where shepherds give sheep a health check, sorting out which ones are lame or sick and need more care, which can go to pasture and which are ready for the market. The pen is not the destination. It sorts. To put it back in a church context, the gathering place is where we collectively come into the presence of Jesus to meet Him as master, provider, protector, and comforter. It's where the community can be established, ready to move forward in unity. A place of healing (physical, spiritual and emotional). It's a place to access extra teaching, resting and equipping (pastures) and where those who are equipped are sent out to the market.

The time of the neutered, penned church has come to an end. It's time to listen to His voice and step OUT where He calls.

Flattery v honour

Flattery - saying nice things in the hope of getting something in return.

Saying you look beautiful, hoping you'll return the compliment (getting my needs met)

Telling you, "You're amazing" because I want your help.

Making a public announcement about how wonderful someone influential is, hoping it'll "buy" favour and open doors of opportunity. (Basically creeping!)

And this is the sneaky one - fake honour (fonouring?) It looks honouring, but it's about the giver of the "honour" looking good, not about the receiver.

Because the difference between flattery and honour starts internally, not externally.

Honour - holding someone in high regard.
Honour is how you position someone in your thoughts - thinking well of them.

Telling people they're amazing should flow out of us, bubbling from within as we spend time looking at those around us, seeing who they are and enjoying the unique nature they carry. It comes from observing what people around you are doing even though they seem to have no reward. The dull and mundane things and the scary spectacular! Honour has NO strings attached. The giver of honour gains nothing but the privilege of having the opportunity to appreciate someone who is a "gift" in some way. This is a healthy part of building up people and community. A heartfelt "Thank you" to the person who cooks your tea, telling a friend what characteristics they have that you "hold in high regard", or messaging an encouragement to someone to let them know you see their bravery all make a difference. It can break hopelessness and fatigue and give resilience and hope.
Although I said giving honour gains nothing, something happens when we do it! Gratitude and humility grow, opening our eyes to see people in a whole new way, not as things to be used but as gifts to be treasured.

Weighing words - recap
1. You're looking for Jesus. discard the human and rotten stuff.
2. Sweet to eat doesn't mean it's good. Sour things that offend are just as likely to be from God.
3. Filling yourself with revelation, without taking time to "chew" means much of the benefit has been lost.
4. Learn to listen for the timing of words - is it for ahead of time preparing, calling to action, or go, go, go

Part 8 - Timing
Looking and listening for God's urgency on words, gives a good indicator of timescale.
Banana one - the goodness is all there, but you need to wait for it to ripen. If you ingest it straight away, you're probably going to get a gripy tummy. These are forthtelling words, of what's ahead. Spend time with God asking what you need to do to prepare.
Banana two - right message, right time. Get ready to go.
Banana three - right message, but it's last chance saloon. It's really good for you, but no time to waste. You'll need to act on this word straight away.

Part 6 - Juice
If you're consuming so much revelation that you don't have time to digest it, then it's in juice form. And you know what happens if you drink too much fruit juice!! Revelation needs to be weighed, taken apart, thought about and digested to have any lasting effect. More is not necessarily better.

Part 5 - Sour
Being offended has become our gauge for what's right and what's not, but Jesus regularly used sharp words and was offensive to show the true fruit in people's heart. To the hungry and humble it draws out gold. If you're offended by a word, ask the Holy Spirit why. Is He offended by it or is it highlighting something in you that needs healing. It might smart like lemon in a cut, but don't let the fear of pain pull you from an opportunity to be set free.

Part 4 - Sweet
Looks good, tastes delicious, really sweet, alas, no goodness. These are words that are pleasing to the ear, but do nothing for the soul and require nothing of you. Preaching and prophecy is meant to draw people to Jesus, AND enable the listeners to become more Jesus like. If the word sounds lovely, but doesn't require any movement (in your heart posture, mindset or actions) then it's not fruit, it's cake. Even with words of encouragement, there's a forward looking "Well done, keep going!"
