We're beginning to collect items to help those in need in refugee camps in Calais. Please read on...
We’ve all been concerned about the refugee situation, and we’ve probably all been wondering how we can help. This is just one suggestion.
You can find a list of items to give on a leaflet that you can download from the Lower Brue Ministry website (http://www.lowerbrue.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/For-Calais.pdf) that has been compiled by a variety of people through a Facebook group, Calais People-to-People Action. Search for them and join the group.
The group makes no claims that the list is perfect, nor comprehensive. It is simply a list. Please remember, however, that from the various reports of life in refugee camps, we are helping a group of people who lack everything. Consequently, the list is extensive, from beds to tin openers!
Please read through and consider which items you might be able to provide. You can leave any smaller items at the back of the St John’s Church in Highbridge or St Andrew's in Burnham. Rev Simon and Rev Sharon will ensure they are collected and delivered to the nearest drop-off point (currently in Bristol) when we’ve gathered enough to make a journey efficient! Bigger items such as chairs or bikes, please get in touch with Revd Simon to work out how we can arrange delivery!
In general, any questions, talk to Revd Simon: [email protected], 07970 936325 or Revd Sharon, [email protected], 07925 089698
How does it feel?
We all want to help. Doing it together can be so much more effective.
Some of the items on the list may seem a little odd. Please try to imagine how you would feel if you had nothing at all. As well as the obvious items like clothes and food, things like boxes to store stuff in and even pallets to lie on can make life so much better.
“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” Matthew 25:36-37
