Today was a very special Candidates Sunday at Bristol South Salvation Army.

As we gathered to worship God and pray for those who are exploring a calling to spiritual leadership as Salvation Army Officers (ministers), we also celebrated two significant moments in the lives of members of our church family.

Natalie renewed her covenant as a Senior Soldier (a committed member of The Salvation Army), and Rhian (not pictured) chose to become an Adherent (someone who is part of our church family who wants to formally identify with and support the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army). Both of these wonderful people taking the next step on their journeys with God.

Throughout our worship, we reflected on God's call to each of us to follow Him. Using Acts 2:37-42, Captain Matt challenged us to consider what it means to "go large" for Jesus and live wholeheartedly for Him.

During a time of response, while Honest Offering by CAIN played, everyone was invited to place broken pieces of pottery at the foot of the cross. This symbolised offering ourselves to Jesus just as we areโ€”even with our brokennessโ€”trusting that He can use every part of our story for His glory. This powerful theme was echoed in Natalie's testimony and in her chosen song, King of Kings, Majesty.

After this wonderful time of worship and celebration, we enjoyed a church family BBQ together. We're grateful that the rain stayed away and especially thankful for all the delicious food generously provided by members of our congregation!

Thank you, Lord, for all that You are doing in and through Your people.

This Sunday at Bristol South we're celebrating Candidates Sunday โ€“ a special opportunity to pray for and encourage people who are exploring God's call to ministry and leadership within The Salvation Army, and a chance to consider our own callings too.

We're also delighted to be celebrating one of our own as she renews her commitment as a Senior Soldier (a committed member of The Salvation Army) while continuing to seek God's guidance for the future.

And because every celebration is better shared, we'll be having a BBQ after worship! ๐ŸŒญ๐Ÿ” (Weather permitting โ€“ and if the British summer lets us down, we'll simply cook indoors instead!)

Whether you're a regular part of our church family or visiting for the first time, we'd love to welcome you. Join us for worship, stay for lunch, and enjoy spending time together.

Today we celebrated Pentecost โ€” the birthday of the Church โ€” by doing church a little differently! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ”ฅ

Gathered around tables as one family, we shared sweets, sang together, prayed together, laughed together and discovered just how much we can learn from one another. We took on a communication quiz and quickly realised that words from different generations donโ€™t always mean what we think they doโ€ฆ which led to plenty of laughter as we tried to work them out! ๐Ÿ˜‚

We also learnt greetings from different languages spoken within our church family, and joined together in a joyful cry, shared by one of our church family, of โ€œTop Chalavo! Hallelujah!โ€ in Gujarati! ๐Ÿ™Œ

Pentecost reminds us that the Holy Spirit gives ordinary people extraordinary power to share the good news of Jesus and break down barriers in a world that often creates them. Today we celebrated being one family โ€” different ages, cultures, languages, genders, races and personalities, worshipping side by side together.

What a special reminder that God's family is beautifully diverse, and the Holy Spirit still brings people together today. โค๏ธ
