We need to increase the size of our team. At present, we are covering most Friday evenings but do struggle sometimes to get a team out. We would love to cover Saturday evening as well. If you are able to help, we will give you training. Please contact me, the coordinator, Alistair Crow, at [email protected]

Happy New Year to all. We had a team of six out on New Year's Eve, working 10pm to 6am. It was of course a very busy night and many people were helped by our team. Many conversations took place and a good number of people were prayed for. Although there were two violent incidents witnessed, it was generally a good-natured night with lots of happy people welcoming in the new year. We were able to help a young man who was lying unconscious on the street and suffering from hypothermia into a taxi to get home safely. A long but very worthwhile night.

We restarted our patrols on Friday nights on 12 April. Not always able to get a team out. Some of our team members are understandably waiting until they have had two vaccines. Despite clubs not being open as clubs, a number are open as bars with outside seating, particularly the ones on the beach promenade. So it is quite busy. It's good to be out there, caring, listening and helping.

Having re-started patrols at the end of July, we have been able to get teams out only intermittently since then, until the new lockdown last week. I, the coordinator, did check last Friday to see if there were many people around the centre of the city at 9.30pm - very few, all clubs and pubs closed. We will review at the beginning of December.

Last Friday, Brighton & Hove Street Pastors had a team out on the streets of the city centre for the first time since March. The beach promenade was very busy whilst other areas were quieter than usual. The team engaged with some homeless folk but did not have many other significant conversations. We are equipped with relevant PPE. As usual, glass bottles were collected and there was no one who especially needed our help. The Police were very happy that we are out again, as were many of the ‘punters’ on the street. It’s good to be out there again.

Hi. Reluctantly we decided to stop patrols last week and of course, since our decision, the government has asked all clubs and pubs to close. We are still praying for our city and of course the national situation with COVID-19.

A team of four of us were out last night - a very busy night. We had to finish early (1.30am) as some of the team had commitments today. A good atmosphere but many the worse for wear through drink/drugs. So good to be a practical demonstration of the love of Christ on the streets of our great city. Safe Space (run by YMCA Downslink) did a brilliant job of caring for people in need. So grateful to St Paul's, West Street, for enabling us and Safe Space to use their building.

On Saturday night (10.45pm) I had a call asking for help for a young man who was struggling because of drugs/drink. We need to increase our team numbers so that we can get teams out on Saturday nights as well as Friday nights. Please let me know if you can give me an opportunity to speak about Street Pastors at your church. Alistair Crow - coordinator.

A team of four were out on 23 Aug - a quiet night. Several people expressed appreciation for what we do, especially thankful for the free flip-flops. We were not able to get a team out on 30th but there will be one this coming Friday 6 Sept. We are always looking out for new recruits, local Christians, to join our team; please contact me, the coordinator, Alistair Crow at [email protected] . We'd love to cover Saturday evenings too.

This weekend, 2 & 3 August, Brighton Pride, we had teams out on Friday and Saturday, both busy nights. The Friday team had good conversations with the many revellers in the city and with the police.
On Saturday, it was hard to move in some places, the crowds were so big. Probably the busiest night we've ever had. The atmosphere was great. We had to take to Safe Space several people who were not at all well through excessive drinking. Safe Space is a brilliant facility run by YMCA Downslink, staffed by para-medics as well as amazing volunteers.
On the streets, several people expressed their appreciation for what we do. A long but very worthwhile night, showing the practical love of Christ, caring, listening and helping.
