Happy Feast Day!

O God, who in the glorious Transfiguration
of your Only Begotten Son
confirmed the mysteries of faith by the witness of the Fathers
and wonderfully prefigured our full adoption to sonship,
grant, we pray, to your servants,
that, listening to the voice of your beloved Son,
we may merit to become coheirs with him.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

After a bit of cleaning and restoration the beautiful crucifix from the garden at St. Augustine Webster church in Barton has now been repositioned on the outside wall of the church building itself. Thank you to those parishioners who have carried out this work with such love and care.

It was a joy and a blessing to host Bishop Patrick McKinney in our parish this weekend for the first of his planned visitations, to talk about all of the hard work already happening in our parish community to share the Gospel with others, and how we have prayed with the Holy Spirit to help us discern our plans for the coming year to make our missionary work even better.

Having met with the parish mission team and members of the PPC on Saturday, Bishop Patrick celebrated the Sunday Masses in both churches and took time to talk to parishioners after Mass and experience for himself the warm welcome and lively community we are so very proud of.

In his homilies over the weekend, Bishop Patrick offered the following reflection on the parish mission activity, and our response to the Diocese of Nottingham Mission Plan themes of , and .

"I wish very much to encourage you...much is already happening in the parish, and so the first task is to help one another to see what God is already doing in your midst.

You're wisely thinking about how your existing parish groups might become places where people might more easily encounter Christ and come to feel that they truly belong; you're hoping to raise up new leaders, and you intend to encourage and make room for people to speak simply and humbly of where they've encountered the Lord.

These are good and Spirit-led first steps, and I ask everyone to support them.

All of you are invited by Christ to play a part in His mission. The ongoing mission of your parish will be carried out by parishioners, like yourselves, who have yourselves encountered the love of Christ and cannot keep it to themselves.

I'd like to invite each of you this week to find a quiet moment each day to bring to Christ whatever you're carrying, and ask 'Lord, today, what are you and I going to do together?' That's where your encounter with Christ in prayer becomes Discipleship, and where Discipleship becomes a sharing in Christ's Mission."

Thank you to Bishop Patrick for taking the time to spend with us and encourage us in our plans, and to all who helped extend a very special welcome to him this weekend.
