Reading: Genesis 1 v 24-31
How do you see yourself? In a world where many struggle with low self-esteem, that can be a difficult question to answer. But perhaps the better question is: how does God see us? Genesis 1 reminds us that we are created in God’s image, made and loved by Him. Yet in Genesis 3, Adam and Eve listened to the serpent instead of God, and doubt about their identity entered the world. The same challenge faces us today: whose voice do we listen to — the world’s, or God’s? To rediscover who we truly are, we must learn to listen to God’s voice again.

Reading: Acts 2 v 1-21
Today we celebrate Pentecost, and the coming of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit came upon the disciples and Peter boldly proclaimed the Gospel and the early church was born. The good news is that the same Spirit is available to us today. Are we open to the power of the Spirit at work in us?

We also celebrate the feast of St Bede this weekend.

We did it! 12 of us from St Bede Church walked the 12 mile St Bede Way in the North East of England to raise money for our Reordering Project! More than 10 members of St Bede Church have committed to 'Walk the St Bede Way for St Bede' to raise money for our Community Room Reordering Project. Our aim is to raise at least £3,000 towards the project. This project will make our 'community room' and toilets accessible for our growing church and improve them for the groups that use it regularly, Pause Cafe, Monthly Community Luncheon Club and more.

Today, we'll be following the footsteps of St Bede as we walk 12 miles from St Peter's Monastery Monkwearmouth to St Paul's Monastery Jarrow.

This Saturday (16th May) more than 10 people from St Bede Church are walking the 12 mile St Bede Way in the North East to raise funds for our Reordering Project at St Bede Church including extending the Community Room, refurbishing the toilets and building a new porch. As we approach Pentecost, Jesus in our reading promises to give his disciples another ‘helper’, the Holy Spirit, to help and guide us after Jesus ascends into heaven. What does the Holy Spirit do and are we open to the gift of the Holy Spirit today?
