The Sacred Texts Syllabus is a competence orientated, integrated syllabus that exists as a bridge between the traditional Nizamiya scholarship programme and more modern approaches to academic study. The Syllabus was launched in 2013 and currently has six cohorts in London and Birmingham, with a view to increasing these to eight by the 2016/17 academic year. The aim of the syllabus is to expose stu
dents to the breadth and depth of the traditional nizamiya syllabus, laying down the foundations for specialisation. In short, the Sacred Texts Syllabus is the accessible, pertinent and palatable incarnation of the traditional Nizamiya, specifically tailored for the modern audience. In order to maintain a high standard, only students that can demonstrate academic competency, ability to cope with the rigorous workload and an appreciation of good work ethic, are considered. Alongside academia, applicants must also demonstrate a willingness and desire to study Islam, a commitment to personal development and an ambition to disseminate knowledge and serve the community. In return, Sacred Texts gives students a chance to learn their religion at the hands of traditionally trained (mujaz) teachers, and promises them an opportunity to become a positive force in community leadership.
