We are now meeting in our brand new Church building for worship and community activities in Lion Road, Bexleyheath, DA6 8NR. Weekly Schedule:

Sunday
9:45am - 10:45am: Kids & Youth Church (for children up to the age of

14)
11:00am: Family Service. All are welcome and refreshments are from 1:00pm.
6:30pm: Young Peoples Band Practice
8pm: Senior Band Practice

Thursday
6:45pm: Singing Company (Youth Choir)
8pm: Community Voices Choir on the first Thursday of every month. All are welcome to sing together in a choir, and to meet new people.
8pm: Songster Practice

This is the initial programme in our new building. It is hoped that new activities and community projects will begin in the near future.

Looking for a bit of support? Or know someone who might be?

Whether you’re experiencing homelessness or housing difficulties, struggling with addiction, looking for employment support, or simply not sure where to turn, you’re welcome at our 'Thursday Breakfast Club +'.

Our doors are open from 10am for people living in the London Borough of Bexley, with our final check-in at 1pm.

Alongside our team, a number of our partner agencies will be available to offer advice, practical support and help with taking those next steps.

☕ The kettle will be on.
🍳 Breakfast will be available.
🤝 And, most importantly, there’ll be a warm welcome and someone ready to listen.

Come along, have some breakfast and a cuppa, and have a chat. You don’t have to face things alone.

What's your favourite piece of furniture? We ❤️ the table.

In truth, it’s a simple piece of furniture — something we probably take for granted. Yet, when we look a little closer, as we did together in church today, we begin to notice the marks and imprints of life lived around it: moments of joy and sadness, laughter and celebration, conversation and companionship.

Because a table is never just a table.

Around tables, stories are shared and news is announced. Conflicts are worked through and decisions are made. Friendships begin, relationships deepen, memories are made and communities are formed.

Perhaps that’s why Jesus spent so much of his time around tables.

Today, around our own tables, we explored some of those stories: Jesus inviting himself to dinner with Zacchaeus, a tax collector nobody particularly liked; Jesus sharing a final meal with his closest friends; and other moments when a simple table became a place of welcome, grace, challenge and belonging.

Again and again, Jesus seemed to make room at the table — sometimes for the very people others would rather have left outside.

And that’s the kind of table we strive to have at The Salvation Army in Bexley.

Whether you’re completely new to church or have been coming for years; whether you’re full of faith or full of questions; whether church has been a place of belonging for you or, sadly, a place where you’ve been hurt; whether you come every Sunday or only on special occasions, there’s a place for you at our table.

We’ll find another chair.
We’ll make a little more room.
And you’ll be very welcome. ❤️

It has been an exceptionally busy period for The Salvation Army’s Emergency Response teams across the United Kingdom.

In recent days, our vehicles and crews have been supporting first responders tackling wildfires, while other teams have had the privilege of providing practical and pastoral support following recent train derailments.

Last night, it was our turn to respond.

Yesterday evening and into the early hours of this morning, our Emergency Response Vehicle and team were called to a large fire in Bermondsey. There was a real sense of déjà vu as the team arrived to discover we were back at the very same location we had been called to just two months ago. Thankfully, as with the incident in June, there have been no reports of injuries. We are, however, very conscious of the damage caused to the building, the disruption faced by those travelling into the City this morning and, most importantly, the impact upon those who live and work in the surrounding neighbourhood.

As always, we were proud to stand alongside our partners at the London Fire Brigade and other first responders, including the Metropolitan Police Service and Thames Water, in providing:

☕ Something to drink.
🥪 Something to eat.
🪑 Somewhere to rest.
💬 Someone to talk with.

Sometimes the simplest things can make a real difference during a long and demanding incident. 📣 With that in mind, we want to say a special thank you to Focaccia Mia London, who generously donated freshly baked focaccia bread for us to serve to firefighters and other first responders. It was delicious — and very gratefully received! 🍞👏

Our van is now safely parked back at Bexleyheath Fire Station and our team are catching up on some much-needed sleep. But we’re mindful that, elsewhere across the United Kingdom, Salvation Army Emergency Response teams continue to stand alongside the fire and rescue services and other emergency responders at wildfires and other prolonged incidents.

🙏 Our thoughts and prayers are with our colleagues still serving today, with all our emergency services personnel, and especially with the individuals and communities affected by these recent incidents.

🇮🇹 CAMEO’s ‘Holiday at Home’ took us to Italy this afternoon! 🍕🍝

We enjoyed a little taste of la dolce vita with delicious takeaway pizza, homemade pasta salads and, of course, Cornetto ice creams! 😋

'Grazie!' to Fireaway Pizza in Bexleyheath for the delizioso pizzas! We enjoyed every slice!

There was plenty of fun too, with an Italian-themed quiz, music from the wonderful Pavarotti, memories and photos shared from visits to Italy, and a fiercely contested Spaghetti Leaning Tower of Pisa Challenge. 🇮🇹

Great food, great music, lots of laughter and even better company — all the ingredients for a bellissimo afternoon at CAMEO ❤️🤍💚

Next week we're heading off to Spain, taking in the sights, sounds and tastes. If you're free between 1-2:30pm, pop along and join us on our visit! 🇪🇦❤️💛❤️

One moment I had everything. The next moment, I had nothing.

This was the heartbreaking realisation of one resident affected by a devastating fire which has destroyed a number of flats and left people facing the unimaginable reality of losing their homes and possessions.

As the smoke clears and the scale of what has happened begins to sink in, our thoughts remain with all those affected — particularly those coming to terms with the loss of belongings, memories, and the place they knew as home.

We were grateful this evening for the support of our friends from The Salvation Army in Mitcham and Raynes Park. They are people with a genuine heart for their neighbours and communities, and we’re thankful that, long after the emergency vehicles have left, The Salvation Army will remain alongside those affected, offering practical help, pastoral care and a listening ear in the days ahead.

Once again, we were privileged to work alongside our partners at the London Fire Brigade. Some firefighters will remain at the scene throughout the evening, continuing the difficult work of bringing the incident fully under control and keeping the community safe.

To everyone affected by tonight’s fire, and to all those responding: you remain very much in our thoughts and prayers.

Last night, whilst the London Fire Brigade tackled a significant fire in Brixton, our Emergency Response team were there to provide a little comfort in the midst of a difficult night.

🥪 Freshly made sandwiches
☕ hot drinks
🧃 cold cans of pop
🍫 and chocolate bars
were all on the menu as firefighters took a well-earned moment to rest and recharge between shifts at the incident.

We know that incidents like these can last for many hours. That's why we are proud to stand alongside our emergency services, offering a warm drink, a listening ear, and a place to pause before crews return to the important task of keeping our city safe.

We were also privileged to support officers from the Metropolitan Police Service by providing refreshments and seating for distressed and anxious residents affected by the fire.

Thankfully, nobody was injured. However, we recognise the significant disruption and distress experienced by local residents and business owners. As they begin to recover from this incident, they remain very much in our thoughts and prayers.

And because the work never really stops, our Emergency Response Vehicle has already had a wash and clean this morning and is ready for its next deployment—Uniformed Services Day in the Borough of Bexley!

So it turns out there's hot... and then there's putting out fires in a heatwave hot. 🥵

In the early hours of this morning, we had the privilege of supporting the heroes of the London Fire Brigade as they tackled a protracted fire on Peckham High Street. We also made ourselves available to other first responders, including the Metropolitan Police Service. The Salvation Army is proud to be partners of the London Fire Brigade and support them in their tireless work across the city of London.

While crews worked tirelessly in challenging conditions, our team was there to provide cold refreshments, a space to take a well-earned break and, just as importantly, someone to talk to. Sometimes a friendly conversation and a chance to offload can make all the difference during a demanding incident.

🚒 As this spell of extreme heat continues, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to every member of the London Fire Brigade and all the emergency services working to keep London safe. Your professionalism, dedication and resilience never goes unnoticed.

We're relieved that nobody was injured. However, we recognise the significant impact this fire will have on local businesses, their employees, customers and the wider community. Our thoughts are with everyone affected.

During a quieter moment, our team took a short break and watched the sun rise over Peckham. Even amid a difficult incident, it was a reminder of the character and resilience of the local community. One piece of artwork that caught our eye simply read "Peace in Peckham." We hope that's exactly what lies ahead for everyone living and working in the area.

It's now less than two weeks until our 'Friday Night is Music Night' concert, featuring our fabulous Community Voices choir and equally fabulous Junior choir, Anthem Brass (Trinity Laban) and the very talented vocal soloist Caitlin Pretious.

We're raising money for two fabulous hospices who have impacted the families of our choir: Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice and Pilgrims Hospices, Canterbury.

We'd love to see you there.

It’s been a busy week for our Emergency Response Team, who were called into action in the early hours of this morning to support crews at a major incident in Brent Cross.

While this may have been an especially demanding week for us, every week is a busy one for the London Fire Brigade. Day and night, firefighters work tirelessly to keep our city safe, and we are proud to stand alongside them and support their vital work.

After mobilising a team and collecting 36 loaves of freshly baked bread kindly donated by the wonderful team at Hovis in Erith (thank you!), we arrived on site at 1:30am and remained there until 9:30am, providing refreshments and support to firefighters and other first responders.

During that time, we served:

🥪 300 cheese and corned beef sandwiches
☕ 450 cups of tea and coffee
🍫 More than 800 chocolate bars
🥤 More than 500 cold drinks

This act of support, simple as it is, helps ensure first responders can keep their energy levels up and take brief moments of rest during long and challenging incidents.

We are thankful to hear that no injuries have been reported. However, the fire has caused significant damage to the warehouse, and our thoughts are with everyone affected, including those facing the difficult task of the clean-up and the employees impacted by the incident.

We want to say thanks to all the emergency services personnel who responded, and to our dedicated team who give their time and energy to serve others.
