THE ASCENSION OF OUR LORD

A blessed and joyous Feast of the Ascension!

On the fortieth day after His Resurrection, our Saviour Jesus Christ gathered His beloved apostles on the Mount of Olives near Bethany. There before their very eyes. He lovingly blessed them all, and ascended into His glorified body in heaven.

In doing so, the Lord opened the way to heaven for all who believe in Him—fulfilling His promise: “Where I am, My servant also will be.” (John 12:26)

Glory to God!

Third Sunday of Pascha: The Myrrh-bearing Women.

S prazdnikom!

Happy Women's Orthodox day ☦️💕.

The Third Sunday of Pascha (observed on 26 April 2026) is dedicated to the Holy Myrrh-bearing Women, the faithful disciples who came to anoint Christ’s body with spices only to find the tomb empty and receive the first news of His Resurrection.

While various Gospel accounts mention different groups, Church tradition generally identifies eight women as the Myrrh-bearers: Mary Magdalene: The first to proclaim "Christ is Risen!" to the Apostles. The Most Holy Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary. Joanna: The wife of Chuza, a steward to King Herod. Salome: The mother of the sons of Zebedee (James and John). Mary of Cleopas: A relative of The Ever-Virgin Mary, The Most Holy Theotokos. Susanna: Mentioned in Luke's Gospel as one who provided for Jesus from her possessions. Mary and Martha of Bethany: The sisters of Lazarus.

This Sunday also honors Joseph of Arimathea, who "went boldly to Pilate" to ask for Christ's body, and Nicodemus, the "disciple by night" who helped with the burial.

The feast celebrates the courage and "boldness" of these individuals who remained faithful when the other disciples had fled in fear.

Orthodox Women's Day: In many traditions, this day is celebrated as Orthodox Women's Day, honoring the role of women as the primary witnesses and sustainers of the faith.

Bright Week:
Thomas Sunday.

On Sunday past we observed the Sunday of Thomas, one week following the celebration of the Sunday of Holy Pascha. The day commemorates the appearance of Christ to His disciples on the evening of the Sunday following Passover. It also commemorates the appearance of the Lord to His disciples eight days later when Thomas was present and proclaimed "My Lord and my God" upon seeing the hands and side of Christ.

This Sunday is also called Antipascha (meaning "in the stead of Pascha," not "in opposition to Pascha") because with this day, the first Sunday after Pascha, the Church consecrates every Sunday of the year to the commemoration of Pascha, that is, the Resurrection.

Thus concluding Bright Week, with The Great Confession of Saint Thomas, and the consecration of every Sunday with Paschal joy of The Resurrection of our, Lord, God and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

CHRIST IS RISEN ☦️
Христос Воскресе!
Tá Críost éirithe!

Bright Week.
BRIGHT MONDAY.

Bright Monday, the day immediately following Holy Pascha, marking the start of Bright Week. A joyous continuation of the Resurrection celebration, defined
by special Church services, the suspension of fasting, and, in many Orthodox majority countries, a public holiday.

It celebrates the Resurrection of our Lord, God and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and is considered a day of great joy and light. Churches often hold festive Divine Liturgies and processionals, reflecting the joy of the empty tomb.

It is customary to greet one another with "Christ is Risen!" and to share food, particularly red eggs, symbolising the blood of Christ and new life. The tradition of exchanging red eggs on Pascha is said to have originated from the Equal-To-The-Apostles Mary Magdalene, who boldly presented herself to the Emperor Tiberius Caesar in Rome to proclaim the resurrection of Jesus Christ, with an egg in hand to illustrate her message.

The entire Bright Week is a fasting-free period, allowing for the consumption of all foods.

The day often commemorates the "Sweet-Kissing" (Glykophilousa) Icon of the Theotokos.

TRULY HE IS RISEN! GLORIFY HIM! ☦️
