(4/6) You Don’t Need the Right Words
One of the biggest lies we believe when life gets heavy is that we have to "pray it away" with the right vocabulary. We think if we can just find the perfect scriptural formula or the most eloquent way to explain our pain to God, He’ll finally move.

But here’s the truth: God is a much better listener than we give Him credit for. He doesn't just hear your words; He hears your sighs. He hears the "I can't do this anymore" that you whisper into your pillow at 2 AM.

Sometimes, the most spiritual thing you can do is just "be" with Him. You don’t have to perform. You don’t have to have a 5-point prayer plan. You can just sit in His presence and be broken.
At Word of Encouragement, we talk a lot about the power of journaling. Not because we want you to write a bestseller, but because your journal can be a space where you’re allowed to be completely, 100% messy. Our digital journals and devotionals aren't meant to be "homework." They’re meant to be an altar. They’re a place where you can dump out the crushing weight of your day and say, "God, I don't have the words, but here is the mess."

When you stop trying to find the "right" thing to say, you create space to hear what He is saying. And usually, He’s just saying, "I’m here. I’ve got you. We’re going to get through this."

Be patient… God is working beneath the surface.
Sometimes we only see the small leaves above the ground—little progress, slow growth, and unanswered prayers. We compare our lives with others and wonder why theirs seems bigger, faster, and more blessed. But what we fail to see is what God is doing underneath.
While you are waiting, God is deepening your roots.
While you feel delayed, He is preparing something greater.
While you think nothing is happening, heaven is moving in your favor.
The delay is not denial.
The waiting is not wasted.
The silence is not absence.
God is not in a hurry because He is building something that will last. What looks small on the outside may be growing into something massive underneath. And when the time is right, what He has prepared for you will be bigger than you ever imagined.
So don’t lose faith.
Don’t give up.
Don’t compare your journey to others.
Trust His timing. Trust His process. Trust His plan.
Because when God finally reveals the blessing, you will understand why you had to wait.
What God has for you is worth the wait.

And in every battle, you need a weapon.
Prayer is not just a ritual. It is not empty words whispered into silence. Prayer is your connection to the One who fights for you when you are too weak to stand. It is your shield when the enemy attacks your mind, your peace, and your purpose. It is your strength when your body is tired and your heart feels like giving up.
You will never fully understand the power of prayer until you face something that only God can carry you through.
Because prayer shifts atmospheres.
It breaks chains you cannot see.
It opens doors no man can shut.
It brings peace that the world cannot give.

Lord, I come to You weary, teach me to rest in Your presence.

Some burdens feel too heavy to carry. Worries press in, expectations weigh down, and my heart grows tired trying to hold everything together. I find myself striving for control, measuring my worth by how well I manage it all, and feeling unsettled when life doesn’t cooperate. In these moments, I forget that I was never meant to carry this alone.

You gently invite me to open my hands. To release what I cannot control. To stop striving and start resting. True rest is not found in everything going right, it is found in trusting that You are steady when life is not. When I lean into You, my soul begins to quiet, and my heart finds a deeper strength than my own.

You have always stayed near. In every season of exhaustion and uncertainty, Your presence has been my anchor. Your love has never wavered, and Your care has never failed. Even now, You are filling the empty places in me with peace, and planting joy that does not depend on circumstances.

Help me to trust that I am already held, already loved, already enough in You. Teach me to rest in that truth today.

I lay down my burdens, my worries, and my need to control. Fill me with Your peace, and renew my strength in Your presence.
