Don't be a slothful baby.
Some Christians have become like babies paralysed on spiritual milk resulting into spiritual inertia rather than action. Like a large overfed baby unable to crawl or go forward with milk that vomits from the mouth because it could not be digested.
God’s people need to hear the milk of the word and drink it down, but many do not act upon the word and so the word of God is not as effective as it should be, it lies in the belly instead of the heart and does not spring to full life. Faith not fear is the catalyst that propels the word into action. Many digest the milk and do not understand, many drink and drink seeking the solace of the word to comfort themselves and although that is fine to seek solace and love from God it goes no further. If Gods people are to be mature and effective, they need the milk of the word to become a living action of love. Love in action helps the milk digest; it will then no longer gush out from the mouth because it has entered deep into the heart instead, it will not be bogged down, sick, or stuck, but become free and unfettered. Staying a slothful baby that seeks self-gratification in what God can do for you and you alone cannot be the type of life that God called us into, it is when you give your life away like water that you will truly know a fulfilled life. We must all take up the cross and deny self in order for Jesus to live through us.
Spiritual stagnation does not bring glory to God nor does Christian self-indulgence, what’s in it for me attitude, what can be done for me, me, me, me. Surely, as servants of Christ it’s what can I do for another?
We must stretch our spiritual muscles and use them daily if we are to grow in faith. Sometimes that faith is tested out in the midst of the storm or trial, it is then when the trial remains that our character is put to the test and we see how we can improve or what we need to pray.
Don’t be a slothful baby always getting the milk of the word but never acting upon it. Don’t be a greedy child that seeks to want its own way all the time, life is not like that, and at times God will say no! For his ways are not our ways.
Feed upon the word and allow the word of God to flourish in you, by being obedient, by surrender, by personal willingness to be moulded and shaped by the potter, even though at times it is painful.
