The 15th Wigan Boys Brigade and Girls Association and Abram Community Centre are proud to announce that we raised £1,006.70 for 2024 poppy appeal. A big thank you to everyone who kindly donated.

The Be Well Stop Smoking Service

Every Monday at Abram Community Centre from 11.30 am-12.30 pm. Please use the Vicarage Road entrance.

The Be Well Stop Smoking Service was officially launched in October 2024 to support more local people in quitting smoking for good. Expert advisors will proactively engage with community residents, providing specialist guidance and a range of options for those looking to quit.

On Sunday Abram Community Centre held our Community Christmas Fayre.
We had a brilliant turnout and a big thank you to everyone who came along and supported the wonderful businesses and groups that make our community so special.

Admission was free, and we served complimentary coffee, tea, and mince pies. Every child who met Santa and his elves received a free Cadbury selection box, wrapped in festive paper. There were 20 stalls offering a wide range of items, (with no stall fees charged as part of our efforts to support local businesses and community groups).

Thank you to our team of volunteers who gave their free time to help at this event and worked so hard on the day Danielle, Rachael, Anthony, David, Alan, Andrew and Steven

If you’re feeling festive and fancy getting in the festive spirit this weekend, there’s a Christmas Fayre taking place at Abram Community Centre (Vicarage Road, Abram, WN2 5QX) on Sunday 1st December from 12pm to 4pm. Santa is rea

Admission is free, and we will be serving complimentary coffee, tea, and mince pies. You can bring the kids to meet Santa and his elves in the grotto, and every child will receive a free Cadbury selection box, wrapped in festive paper.

You can also take part in our free raffle, where all attendees will receive a ticket. Prizes include a litre bottle of Gin, Vodka, Whiskey, and various sweet treats.

There will be 20 stalls offering a wide range of items, (with no stall fees charged as part of our efforts to support local businesses and community groups).

Come down to do some early Christmas shopping, discover unique gifts, and support the wonderful businesses and groups that make our community so special.

The War Memorials in Abram Church and Abram Community Centre include 87 names of the fallen who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We have written each hero's name on an individual poppy, which is displayed in our garden at Abram Community Centre.

We will observe a two-minute silence in our garden at 11 a.m. today. You are welcome to join us.

This morning, we held the Remembrance Day Parade and Church Service in Abram to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

We had an amazing turnout. Thank you to the groups and organisations from our community who made our village proud: the 15th Wigan Boys Brigade and Girls Association, Veterans, the 1st Abram Scout Group, Abram School, Royal British Legion, Abram Community Centre, Wigan Council, Abram Church Craft Class, Ward Councillors, Remembering Animals, Abram Steadfast Association, Wigan Cosmos FC, Greater Manchester Police, Abram Village Club, Abram Church, St John's Squad, Abram Branch Labour Party and community members.

A special mention goes to our safety marshals, who comprise of people from our community.
Without their dedication, free time, and support, we wouldn't have had this event in our community. You did a fantastic job keeping us safe, and we can't thank you enough.

Thank you to CarePrime ambulance services, which kindly provided first aid for the event. Their team provided a vehicle to protect the rear of the parade. They are a very professional company and thank you to Ken and his team for all they did for us today.

Thank you to Reverend Carol Close and her team for organising the service and making everyone feel so welcome. The church service was lovely. A special mention to the children from the church, who sang beautifully.

Thank you to Rachel Gibbons, Danny Orrell, and the Streetworks team from Wigan Council for their work in organising, planning, and carrying out the traffic management for our parade.

We have a fantastic community spirit in Abram, and may it long continue.

Abram Remembrance Day Parade & Church Service

On Sunday, 10th November, there is the Remembrance Day Parade and Church service in Abram. Can all people taking part please be on Dootson Street at the back of Abram Community Centre at 9.50am so that we are ready to start the parade at 10.00am.

At 10:00 am, the parade leaves Dootson Street, turning left along Warrington Road. We continue to walk along Warrington Road, arriving at church around 10.10am, ready for the service to begin at 10.30am.

After the service, the parade assembles down the side of the church and follows the same route, returning to Dootson Street for dispersal around 11.40 a.m.

The Remembrance service at Abram Church is being led by Mrs. Close and Mr. Etches.

Our ward councillor, Eunice Smethurst, is joining us for the parade and service this year.

Abram Community Centre will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will provide free coffee, tea, soft drinks, and toast.

As in previous years, the centre will be showing the National Service of Remembrance live from London on the big screen throughout the morning.

We will sell Royal British Legion poppies on the morning of the parade.

Regarding safety, we have arranged, as in previous years, for safety marshals to parade with us. They will wear orange high-visibility jackets and9.50 am10.00 am help Wigan Council operatives keep us all safe on the roads.

PrimeCare Ambulance Service will provide first aid and an AED for the parade. Thank you to PrimeCare Ambulance Service for their continued support and help with this event in our village.

Please note you do not have to be a member of one of the above groups to walk in the parade. This is a National Day of Remembrance, and everybody is welcome.

Road Closure will be from the junction of Warrington Road and Bickershaw Lane (side of Bickershaw Lane Garage) and Kingsdown Road at the junction of Warrington Road in front of the post office.

Parading from Dootson Street (back of Abram Community Centre) to Abram Church roads start to be closed at 9.50 am and reopen around 10.10 am.

Parading from Abram Church to Dootson Street roads start to be closed at 11.20 am and reopen around 11.40 am.

Please take time to read the safety information below.

While parading on the road, if you hear a continuous blast on an air horn, you must leave the road immediately and move to the pavement on your left-hand side. Under no circumstances should you go back on the road unless instructed to do so.

Please ensure you act on any of the police/safety marshal’s advice; all marshals will be wearing orange high visibility jackets. The head safety marshal will be wearing a blue high-visibility jacket.

Be aware of uneven roads and paths on the main road and in the church yard.

If a first aider is required, please see the PrimeCare first aiders participating in the parade.

Please report any situations or unsafe acts to the safety marshals.

Can we please ask members of the community to join in at the back of the parade and not walk on the pavements at the side of the parade. In the event of an emergency and we need to get off the road, we will need to use the pavement for the safety of the people walking in the parade.

Last night volunteers of Abram Community Centre and 15th Wigan Boys Brigade and Girls Association put up lamp post poppies around Abram.

Lamp post poppies were put up along Warrington Road, in front of Abram School and Bickershaw Lane to the end of the estate.

Thank you to Chloe, Harrison, David, Andrew, Anthony, Michael, Rachael and Steven for kindly putting up the lamp post poppies.
