Believe it or not, the Bible is still considered to be the most popular book in the world. In fact, the sale of Bibles in the UK has risen by 134% in the past few years, though there's a world of difference between owning a Bible and reading it.

The Bible is the written word of God. It's the main way that Christians discover God's will for their lives, and it's content is powerful. It can, quite literally, change us from the inside out.

So, if you have a Bible, how often do you read it? Do you actually engage with it, and allow it to change your thoughts, and your behaviour? We all hear readings from the Bible when we go to church, and we hear our preachers expound the word of God in their sermons, but do we read it for ourselves?

Many people who attend our churches are Christians in name only. They don't live the Christian life because they don't know God's word well enough. It's time for change. If the Church is ever to become a dynamic force in society, God's people must begin to live the life as well as talk the talk.

While driving back to La Marina from Dolores, I found that the road was blocked by a herd of sheep and Goats. I watched them for a while, wondering how you can tell the difference between a sheep and a goat. It really isn't easy. They look very much alike.

I was reminded of the 25th chapter of St. Matthew's gospel, where the sheep, and the goats were eventually separated by the shepherd. It was an metaphor for the Christians and non-Christians, who will eventually be separated on judgement day.

Just as it's difficult to tell the difference between sheep and goats, so too it's sometimes difficult to tell the difference between Christians and non-Christians in a church congregation. There are some very good unbelievers, while some who profess Christ as Saviour might not be saved at all. Their behaviour can be quite ungodly.

Thankfully, we don't have to decide who the sheep are. We can leave all decisions regarding eternal life to the righteous Judge. God will make no mistakes, while we might make serious errors of judgement. This is why we're told not to make such judgements.

It's going to be different!

Have you ever noticed that life can be an uphill struggle? There are some people, of course, who seem to sail through life, with not a care in the world, while most of us face adversity of every kind. Broken relationships... Sickness... Financial struggles... Troubles of every kind. Life's not always easy, is it?

Thankfully, when we receive Christ as our Saviour and Lord, he stays with us throughout the rest of our lives. That doesn't mean that we'll cease to encounter hardships, but when we do, Christ will be with us to help us rise above them. Christ doesn't shield us from adversity, but when it comes, he enables us to face it, and to emerge victorious.

Yes, in this life, troubles will come, but we have the assurance of God's word that it will not always be like this. A time is coming in which there will be no more death, or mourning, or crying, or pain. Those who love the Lord will spend an eternity where none of these things will confront us again. Yes, it's going to be different.

Have you ever noticed how easily our circumstances can change? We can be rich one day, and poor the next. We can be healthy, or sick; active, or inactive. As Christians, we must learn how to cope with life, no matter what circumstances we might have to face.

The Apostle Paul knew just how easily our circumstances can change. He'd experienced changing circumstances for himself, and he'd learnt how to be content, whatever his circumstances might be.

So, what circumstances are you facing right now? How do they make you feel? The Apostle Paul said that he'd learnt how to be content, but it wouldn't have been easy. It's something we must learn, though, and when we know the Lord, we begin to realise that we can do all things through him who strengthens us.

Hardy Schilitz is leading our service on Sunday 7th June, with Ian Browning preaching.

The service starts at 11am, will include Holy Communion & last for a little over an hour.

As it's the first Sunday of the month, the service will be followed by our fellowship meal, where everyone is invited to bring cold finger food which we all then share together as a Church family. Visitors are welcome to join in, and don't worry if you forget to bring some food; there's always plenty!

A very warm welcome to all and, if you can't attend in person, you can watch the service broadcast live via this page & available to view afterwards.

When did you surrender your life to Christ? Some of you are probably thinking that it was 40 years ago, or even longer. But the answer ought to be that you surrendered your life to Christ this morning.

When we've been a Christian for a long time, it's possible for us to take our Christianity for granted. The Christian life can then become a boring routine, and our testimony can become stale. This is why Jesus said that we are to take up our cross DAILY.

Just occasionally, we need to stop, and examine our lives in the light of scripture. Are we really making good progress in our Christian life, or have we settled for mediocrity? Are we beginning to experience spiritual lethargy, in which state we settle for the easy road? Or, are we still up for a challenge, maybe even to step out of the boat and try walking on water?
