GOOD NEWS
Last year, we launched this initiative to reprint the Nuer Catechism in Thok Yoanyang (Yoanyang Language) after realizing that the book—so central to Nuer Christian life—was fading from circulation and becoming increasingly hard to find. For the Nuer people, the catechism is more than a religious text; it is a vessel of faith, culture, language, and identity passed from one generation to the next.
We are pleased to share that the Nuer Catholic Catechism Reprint Project (NCRP) has successfully located an original copy of the Nuer Catechism.
Last week, the project’s lead journalist, Tor Madira Machier, met with Rev. James Majang Gatjiek, a highly respected religious leader in Unity State, who entrusted us with the original catechism. This moment carries deep spiritual and cultural significance, reaffirming the catechism’s role in preserving Nuer faith teachings in Thok Yoanyang.
We will now begin the careful process of retyping and reprinting the catechism, with the hope of completing the project by the end of this year. We remain committed to honoring the sacred nature of this work and will continue to update you as we move forward.
