Names of Allah

Al-Qādir

Al-Qādir means the All-Powerful. Allah (ﷻ) can do whatever He wants and nobody can stop Him. Allah (ﷻ) has power over His creation but they do not have power over Him. Allah (ﷻ) sometimes shows His power so that we do not forget that He is All-Powerful.

An example is when Muslims went to Egypt, during the time of ‘Umar (رضي الله عنه). ‘Umar (رضي الله عنه) sent one of the Prophet’s (ﷺ) Companions, ‘Amr (رضي الله عنه) to become the new leader of Egypt. Every year, the water of the River Nile would become very shallow. It was the belief of the Egyptian people that if they sacrificed a beautiful young girl by throwing her into the river, it would fill up with water again. This was very strange and worrying for the Muslims and the new leader ‘Amr (رضي الله عنه).

So ‘Amr (رضي الله عنه) wrote a letter to ‘Umar (رضي الله عنه) explaining the situation. When ‘Umar (رضي الله عنه) received ‘Amr’s (رضي الله عنه) letter, he turned to Allah (ﷻ). He knew only Allah (ﷻ) could make the river flow again. He then sent a letter back to ‘Amr (رضي الله عنه) to give to the River Nile.

The letter said: “O River! If you flow according to your own wish then we do not need you but if you flow according to the will of Allah, then we ask you to rise and not become shallow again.” All the people gathered to see what would happen to the River Nile. To their amazement, it started flowing again! This is how Allah (ﷻ) showed His power to the people. The River Nile has never become shallow again after that.

The five pillars of Islam 🤍🤍🌸

1. Shahada (Testimony of Faith)

Definition:
The declaration that “There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His Messenger.”
It is the foundation of Islam and the first step to becoming a Muslim.

2. Salah (Prayer)

Definition:
Performing the five daily prayers at their prescribed times.
It connects the Muslim with Allah and strengthens discipline and spirituality.

3. Zakah (Charity)

Definition:
Giving a fixed portion of one’s wealth (usually 2.5%) to help the poor and those in need.
It purifies wealth and spreads social justice.

4. Sawm (Fasting)

Definition:
Fasting during the month of Ramadan from dawn to sunset.
It teaches self-control, patience, and empathy for the needy.

5. Hajj (Pilgrimage)

Definition:
The pilgrimage to Makkah once in a lifetime for those who are physically and financially able.
It symbolizes unity, equality, and devotion to Allah.
