The Gospel has compelled us to make a move to Germany. We desire to bring the hope of Christ to a dejected, self-reliant teen generation there. This is a yearning deep within us that the Lord has been stirring for the past few years. Last fall, we took an exploratory trip to Germany. After much prayer, seeking much counsel, and actively waiting on the Lord, we felt definitively we were to move to
Hamburg. He led us to Hamburgprojekt, a church located in the heart of the city. Hamburgprojekt is a missional church sent into the world to join in God's work to renew the city of Hamburg. We will actually be involved in the launch of its first daughter church, Wilhelmsburgprojekt, which will be located on an island just south of the city center, in a predominantly young and multicultural neighborhood. We hope to move to Hamburg between September and the end of this year, and we will be committing at least three years to these two churches. We will be on staff with Hamburgprojekt, serving both the mother and daughter churches in various capacities. In addition to our desire to minister within the context of the workplace, we have a specific call and a plan to open our home to the youth and teens of Hamburg and Wilhelmsburg. Whether this is for tutoring, video/card/board games, meals, community groups, worship, Bible studies, opportunities for teens' bands to practice and play shows, art space and exhibitions, reading groups...the possibilities, we feel, are endless. Our heart is to be open and to serve the kids that come to us however they may have need. This portion of our ministry will be very organic and, likely, the most time-consuming, though it will be integrally connected to both Hamburgprojekt and Wilhelmsburgprojekt. Our pastors are excited about our vision, and they see its desperate need in the context of their communities. We understand Germany, and Europe in general, may not be one of the first places you think of for missions, church planting, or a need for evangelism. With only approximately 2% of Germans calling themselves born-again Christians, though, the land of Martin Luther has become a truly post-Christian nation – one of the least evangelized places in the world. We're so excited to have you join us on our journey!
