Η ΑΚΑΔΗΜΙΑ ΘΕΟΛΟΓΙΚΩΝ ΣΠΟΥΔΩΝ ΒΟΛΟΥ
ΦΙΛΟΞΕΝΕΙ ΤΟ 2ο ΜΕΓΑΛΟ ΣΥΝΕΔΡΙΟ
ΤΗΣ ΔΙΕΘΝΟΥΣ ΟΡΘΟΔΟΞΗΣ ΘΕΟΛΟΓΙΚΗΣ ΕΝΩΣΗΣ (IOTA)
Η Ακαδημία Θεολογικών Σπουδών Βόλου φιλοξενεί το 2ο Μεγάλο Συνέδριο που διοργανώνει η Διεθνής Ορθόδοξη Θεολογική Ένωση (International Orthodox Theological Association, IOTA). Το τετραήμερο αυτό Διεθνές Θεολογικό Συνέδριο με θέμα "Ιεραποστολή και Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία", θα λάβει χώρα από τις 11 έως τις 15 Ιανουαρίου 2023, στην πόλη του Βόλου με γλώσσα εργασίας τα αγγλικά.
Η Διεθνής Ορθόδοξη Θεολογική Ενωση I.O.T.A., καρπός της Πανορθόδοξης Συνόδου που έλαβε χώρα στην Κρήτη (2016), ιδρύθηκε το 2017 με στόχο τη θεολογική συμβολή στην ανανέωση της Ορθόδοξης Εκκλησίας, υποστηρίζοντας την πανορθόδοξη ενότητα και συνοδικότητα. Ως πανορθόδοξος μη κερδοσκοπικός οργανισμός, η IOTA δεν ανήκει σε καμία τοπική Εκκλησία και προσπαθεί να διατηρεί εποικοδομητικές σχέσεις με τους ηγέτες όλων των Ορθοδόξων Εκκλησιών. Για τον σκοπό αυτό διοργανώνει διεθνή συνεδρία, ομαδικά ερευνητικά έργα, συνεργάζεται με ιδρύματα σε όλον τον κόσμο. Στα κύρια ενδιαφέροντά της εντάσσονται η κατανόηση του σύγχρονου πολιτισμού υπό το πρίσμα της Ορθόδοξης παράδοσης και η στήριξη της πανορθόδοξης ενότητας και συνεννόησης.
Η εξαιρετικά σημαντική αυτή διοργάνωση, που πρόκειται να συγκεντρώσει περίπου τετρακόσιους ειδικούς ομιλητές από πολλές χώρες (Αμερική, Ευρώπη, Αυστραλία, Ασία, Αφρική, Βαλκάνια, Ρωσία), με τη συμμετοχή 15 επισκόπων από διάφορες Ορθόδοξες Εκκλησίες και δεκάδων κληρικών και μοναχών, πλαισιώνεται από τη στήριξη σημαντικών θεολογικών ιδρυμάτων και ερευνητικών κέντρων, μεταξύ των οποίων η Θεολογική Σχολή του Εθνικού και Καποδιστριακού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών, η Ελληνορθόδοξη Θεολογική Σχολή του Τιμίου Σταυρού της Βοστώνης, το Ορθόδοξο Θεολογικό Σεμινάριο του Αγίου Βλαδιμήρου από τη Νέα Υόρκη, η Ορθόδοξη Θεολογική Εταιρεία της Αμερικής (OTSA), η Θεολογική Σχολή της Σόφιας (Βουλγαρία), το Κέντρο Ορθοδόξων Χριστιανικών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου Fordham από τη Νέα Υόρκη, η Ορθόδοξη Θεολογική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου του Μπαλαμάντ από τον Λίβανο, το Ορθόδοξο Ινστιτούτο του Cambridge από τη Μ. Βρετανία, η Ορθόδοξη Θεολογική Σχολή του Αγίου Ανδρέα από το Σύδνεϋ, το Ορθόδοξο Ινστιτούτο του Αγίου Ειρηναίου από την Ολλανδία, το New Georgian University από τη Δημοκρατία της Γεωργίας η European Academy of Religion, το Οικουμενικό Ίδρυμα Pro-Oriente, το Ευρωπαϊκό πρόγραμμα RESILIENCE κ.α. Η πραγματοποίηση του Συνεδρίου αυτού στην πόλη του Βόλου αποτελεί αναγνώριση του έργου της Ιεράς Μητροπόλεως Δημητριάδος και της σημαντικής θεολογικής μαρτυρίας της Ακαδημίας Θεολογικών Σπουδών Βόλου.
Το Συνέδριο επικεντρώνεται στον ρόλο και τη σημασία της Ιεραποστολής, νοούμενης ως παρουσία και δράση της Ορθοδοξίας στον σύγχρονο κόσμο. Κεντρικός ομιλητής του Συνεδρίου θα είναι ο Σεβασμιώτατος Μητροπολίτης Κορέας κ. Αμβρόσιος (Ζωγράφος). Ο Σεβασμιώτατος Μητροπολίτης Κορέας αποτελεί μια εμβληματική προσωπικότητα της Ορθόδοξης ιεραποστολής και της Ορθόδοξης Εκκλησίας της Διασποράς. Με στέρεη θεολογική παιδεία και ιεραποστολική εμπειρία δεκαετιών, διακονεί ως επίσκοπος σε ένα πολιτισμικό περιβάλλον ριζικά διαφορετικό από αυτό του δυτικού κόσμου, κομίζοντας τις σχετικές εμπειρίες, χωρίς να απέχει τόσο από τα γενικότερα προβλήματα της Ορθόδοξης ιεραποστολής, όσο και από την αγωνία για το μέλλον της Ορθοδοξίας στον σύγχρονο κόσμο.
Επιπλέον, σε παράλληλες συνεδρίες, ειδικοί ομιλητές θα καταθέσουν την επιστημονική τους συνεισφορά σε ζητήματα όπως: Εκκοσμίκευση και Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία, σύγχρονες θεολογίες της ιεραποστολής, θρησκευτικός εθνικισμός και ταυτοτικές πολιτικές, η φιλοσοφική θεολογία ως ερμηνευτικό εργαλείο, γυναίκα και Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία, θέματα οικουμενικής θεολογίας, η θεολογική εκπαίδευση στον 21ο αιώνα, Ορθόδοξη διασπορά, η θέση της θρησκείας στη δημόσια σφαίρα κ.α.
Ο ρόλος και σημασία της Ορθοδοξίας στον σύγχρονο κόσμο την αναδεικνύει, μεταξύ των άλλων, σε πρωτεύουσα συνιστώσα για την εδραίωση της ειρήνης και της συνεργασίας μεταξύ των λαών. Στο πλαίσιο αυτό, η μελέτη της ιεραποστολικής της δράσης στις νέες δυνατότητες και προκλήσεις του 21ου αιώνα, αποτελούν ουσιαστική συνεισφορά τόσο για την κατανόηση του ρόλου της, όσο και για την ανάδειξη της γόνιμης συμβολής της στο θεολογικό, ανθρωπολογικό αλλά και κοινωνικό πεδίο.

VOLOS ACADEMY FOR THEOLOGICAL STUDIES
HOSTS THE SECOND MEGA CONFERENCE
OF THE INTERNATIONAL ORTHODOX THEOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION (IOTA)
Volos Academy for Theological Studies of Volos hosts the Second Mega-Conference of the International Orthodox Theological Association (IOTA). This four-day International Theological meeting on the general theme “Mission and Orthodox Church,” will take place from January 11 to 15, 2023, in Volos, Greece, with English as working language.
A fruit of the Pan-Orthodox Synod that took place in Crete (2016), IOTA was founded in 2017 with the aim to theologically contribute to the renewal of the Orthodox Church, supporting pan-Orthodox unity and synodality. As a pan-Orthodox non-profit organization, IOTA does not belong to any local Church and strives to maintain constructive relations with the leaders of all Orthodox Churches. For this purpose, it organizes international sessions, group research projects, and collaborates with institutions all over the world. Its main interests include the understanding of modern culture in the light of the Orthodox tradition and the support of pan-Orthodox unity and mutual understanding.
This extremely important event, which is going to bring together about four hundred specialized speakers from many countries (America, Europe, Australia, Asia, Africa, the Balkans, Russia), with the participation of 15 bishops from various Orthodox Churches and dozens of clergy and monks, is supported by important theological institutions and research centers, including the Department of Theology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece), the Holy Cross Orthodox Seminary in Boston (USA), the Orthodox Theological Seminary of St. Vladimir in New York (USA), the Orthodox Theological Society in America (OTSA), the Theological Faculty of Sofia University (Bulgaria), the Orthodox Christian Studies Center of Fordham University in New York (USA), the Orthodox Theological School of the University of Balamand in Lebanon, the Institute of Orthodox Christian Studies in Cambridge (UK), the Orthodox Theological School of St. Andrew in Sydney (Australia), the St. Irenaeus Orthodox Theological Institute from the Netherlands, the New Georgian University from the Republic of Georgia, the European Academy of Religion, the Ecumenical Foundation Pro-Oriente, the European programme RESILIENCE, etc.
The organization of this conference in the city of Volos is a recognition of the work of the Holy Metropolis of Demetrias and the important theological witness of the Volos Academy for Theological Studies.
The conference focuses on the role and importance of Mission, understood as the presence and action of Orthodoxy in the modern world. The keynote speaker of the Conference will be His Eminence Ambrosios (Zografos), Metropolitan of Korea, who is an emblematic personality of the Orthodox mission and the Orthodox Church of the Diaspora. With a solid theological education and decades of missionary experience, he serves as a bishop in a cultural environment radically different from that of the Western world, bringing to the fore relevant experiences, without distancing himself neither from the general problems of the Orthodox mission, nor from the common anxiety for the future of Orthodoxy in the modern world.
In addition, in parallel sessions, special speakers will present their scientific contributions on issues such as Secularization and the Orthodox Church, Contemporary Mission Theologies, Religious Nationalism and Identity Policies, Philosophical Theology as an Hermeneutical Tool, Women and the Orthodox Church, Issues of Ecumenical Theology, Theological Education in the 21st century, Orthodox Diaspora, the Place of Religion in the Public Sphere, etc.
The role and the importance of Orthodoxy in the modern world renders it, among others, as a primary factor for the consolidation of peace and cooperation among peoples. In this context, the study of its missionary activity in the new possibilities and challenges of the 21st century, constitute a substantial contribution both for the understanding of its role, and for highlighting its fruitful contribution to the theological, anthropological and social fields.
