Learn a little about the saint who we celebrate today, and why the blessing of the throat is done on his feast day! St. Blaise, pray for us!

The custom of blessing throats on his feast day is taken from St. Blaise's time in prison under Emperor Diocletian, where he healed a young boy who had a fish bone stuck in his throat. He is listed among the Fourteen Holy Helpers – saints who are revered as healers. St. Blaise is the patron of throat ailments.

Happy Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord!

Today we remember the Presentation of the Lord in the temple, 40 days after His birth, and the ritual Purification of Mary. We also celebrate Candlemas, a tradition dating back to the 8th century.
