東華禪寺始建於公元502年，由天竺高僧智藥三藏禪師創建，初名靈鷲寺。公元661年，禪宗六祖惠能大師途經此地隱修，改名東華禪寺。1997年，萬行法師閉關三年後復建東華禪寺，弘揚東華禪，倡導人本佛教

寺院秉承“一日不做，一日不食”的祖訓，堅持農禪並重，開闢農田和茶園，實踐“以農入禪，以禪耕農”的修行方式，為現代人提供實修途徑

寺院以孝親報恩為核心，多年來積極從事慈善事業，助力扶貧、助學等公益。同時以佛法為核心，促進國際文化交流，弘揚禪宗文化
