🌸🌺💐The Buddha Bathing Festival is a traditional Chinese Buddhist festival, different from Vesak Day in Theravada Buddhism.

It falls on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month, marking the birth of Sakyamuni Buddha. The core rite is bathing the infant Buddha statue with pure water. It stands for purifying body, speech, and will, dispelling afflictions, and awakening the innate Buddha nature. People pray for inner purity and worldly peace.

Vesak Day is celebrated on the first full moon day of May. It commemorates the Buddha's birth, supreme enlightenment, and nirvana. The two festivals vary in date and theme.

🪷2026 Spring Bodhisattva-precepts-conferring Ceremony

Date: May 27–30, 2026
Venue: Donglin Monastery (Lushan), Jiangxi, China

Receiving precepts plants the precious seed of Buddhahood, guiding us toward ultimate enlightenment in this life and future lifetimes.

Ancient masters taught:
“Better to receive precepts even if breaking them later, than never to take them at all.”

Ordinary beings are like earthen bowls; receiving Bodhisattva precepts transforms us into golden vessels. Even broken golden fragments are far more precious than intact clay bowls.

Bodhisattva-precepts-conferring ceremonies are held yearly in the spring & autumn.
✅ On-site registration is welcome

Full of Dharma Joy | The Joyful Smiles of Practitioners at Donglin Monastery

In Chinese Buddhism, Dharma masters and lay practitioners are collectively known as the "twofold assembly of the black-robed (monastics) and the white-robed (laity)." "Black" represents the monastics; “white,” the laypeople. Although there are clear distinctions between them in many respects, on the path of cultivation, they strive side by side with one heart. They all recite Amitabha's name and aspire to the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.

Following "Images of the Way at Donglin Monastery" and "Monastic Traces at the Grand Amitabha Statue," this third issue captures a shared state of the two assemblies within the monastery—Dharma Joy.

What kind of joy is this? It is different from worldly revelry or superficial pleasure. When the words Namo Amituofo rise in the heart, utter from the lips, and enter through the ears—when afflictions give way to Amitabha's name—the pure and serene joy that naturally springs from the depths of the heart is Dharma Joy.

May these smiling faces touch the purity and aspiration deep within your heart. May all who see and hear them generate Dharma joy: may they recite Amitabha's name with joyful hearts, and walk the Way with minds serene. May their recitation of Amitabha's name flow like an unbroken stream, and may they smile without any worldly attachment.
