CYF OBOSSO 67th Anniversary Celebration
Today, we celebrate 67 marvelous years of the Christian Youth Fellowship (CYF) the first and oldest movement of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC). Founded on 5th September 1959, the CYF has stood for more than six decades as a spiritual anchor for young people, raising generation after generation rooted in Christ, disciplined in character, and bold in leadership.
HUMBLE BEGINNINGS: THE ROOTS OF A MOVEMENT
The story of CYF is as old as the Church itself. It began with a Swiss missionary, Rev. Ulrich Bachmann, serving in Victoria (now Limbe). In 1957, he gathered the youths of the Beach-Victoria congregation into the Bible Reading Fellowship (BRF) a small, purposeful circle devoted to studying and living out God's Word.
That same year, the first youth leadership course was held at Man O' War Bay, with young representatives from Sasse, Ombe, and Victoria. It was the seed from which organized youth leadership in the PCC would grow.
By 1958, fellowships had sprung up in Sasse and Ombe, and the BRF matured into the Fellowship of Youths (FOY).
THE BIRTH OF CYF: PCC'S TREASURE
When Rev. Bachmann returned to Switzerland in 1958, his vision was entrusted to another Swiss missionary, Rev. Albert Charles Maiz. On 5th September 1959, a decisive youth meeting convened in Mutengene, chaired by Rev. Maiz with Moses A. Fondo as Chaplain. Delegates came from Victoria, Bota CDC, Ekona, Mutengene, and Buea.
There, on that historic day, the Christian Youth Fellowship (CYF) was officially born.
THE FIRST CYF RALLY
The Mutengene meeting also gave birth to the first CYF rally, held on 6th December 1959 in Buea under the theme: "TOWARDS THE PERFECT MAN."
67 YEARS OF STRENGTHENING AND GROWTH
For 67 years, CYF has nurtured spiritual growth, built leaders, and produced pastors, teachers, and community builders. It teaches discipline, hard work, faithfulness, leadership, and love.
THE 2026 THEME: COURAGE Joshua 1:9
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."
Courage is not the absence of fear; it is obedience in spite of fear.
We honour our founding fathers Rev. Ulrich Bachmann, Rev. A.C. Maiz, and Rev. Moses A. Fondo and we appreciate our Moderator, The Rt. Rev. Miki Hans Abia, and our National Youth Secretary, The Rev. Wa-Ekosano Joshua Modika Cameroon, for their support.
