*A TOTALLY NEW CREATURE*

_(You Have Been Supplanted And Not Supplemented)_

*TO THE BIBLE: 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV*

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

*LET’S TALK*

“Lord, forgive me for what I just did,” Pete prayed, “I guess the old nature of sin just rose up in me.”

“Pete, you don’t have two natures in you. The one who’s born again only has one life and that’s the divine life!” the Holy Ghost corrected him.

When you were born again, a new life was introduced into your spirit, and the human life with which you were born of your earthly parents ceased to be; it was replaced by the life and nature of God! It’s not something that can be figured out in the laboratory; it’s spiritual. Moreover, this change isn’t one to take place in heaven, as some also think; it’s already happened. That’s the message of Christ.

He came to give us the divine life; to make us sons of God: “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is” (1 John 3:2). 2 Corinthians 5:17 NASB further buttresses this; it says, “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature ; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”

Notice the phrase, “new creature”; it connotes something that’s not known; it’s new, or even “strange.” It’s like thinking you saw something sneak by, but couldn’t really make out what it was, and the best way you could describe it was to say, “I saw a creature; it’s neither a cat nor a dog; but I’m not sure what it is; it’s something strange.” It wasn’t like anything you’ve ever seen.

This is exactly Paul’s inference in 2 Corinthians 5:17. We’re a new species; a kind of creature that never existed before; a new type of man! When you come to this realisation and understanding

THE KNOWLEDGE OF WHO YOU ARE

An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered (Proverbs 11:9).

Imagine that you carried and were playing with your neighbour’s one or two-year-old child and he suddenly inflicts a bite on your hand. You see the bite wound but shrug it off as nothing, because he’s only a child. Then while walking away, someone walks up to you and says, “I saw that child bite you; but did you know the child is HIV positive?”

Suddenly, your demeanour changes; you start speaking in tongues and making confessions. In your mind, you think you’re putting your faith to work, whereas you’re actually demonstrating a lack of understanding of who you are in Christ. God doesn’t want you at that level.

If you have the knowledge of God and recognise what you have inside you, and who you are in Christ, you’ll remain unmoved, in spite of the new information about the child. This was what the Apostle Paul knew that made him so different. In Acts 28:3-6, the serpent that bit Paul was a venomous one, and those who were around him were expecting him to swell and die right there. But they were baffled to see Paul unharmed. He didn’t even pay attention to it; the Bible says he shook it into the fire and went on discussing the Gospel. Hallelujah!

Someone may say, “Oh, if only I have the kind of faith that Paul had!” No, it wasn’t faith that Paul demonstrated; it was the knowledge of God at work. He had the knowledge of who Jesus said the Christian is. In Mark 16:17-18, Jesus said, “And these signs shall follow them that believe...if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them....” If any poisonous substance ever finds its way into your system—whether by accident or by intent— it’ll have no effect on you.

What you need is the accurate and adequate knowledge of God’s Word; this is what puts you over in life. Many don’t have a faith problem, for ever

1 C orinthians 15:48 AMP C “Now those who are made of the dust are like him who was first made of the dust (earthly-minded); and as is [the Man] from heaven, so also [are those] who are of heaven (heavenly-minded).”

▶️ LET’S TALK
“Andrew! Andrew!” Ben called out. “Looks like your dad is here!”

“My dad?” Andrew asked in surprise

“Yes, isn’t that your dad standing over there in the school parking lot?” Ben enthused.

“No, he’s not. I don’t know that man from Adam,” Andrew rebuffed.

’m sure you’ve heard such an expression before. Many people, like Andrew, unconsciously trace their lineage to the first Adam. But when you’re born again, your ancestry isn’t from the first Adam but the second Adam, Jesus Christ. God doesn’t trace your lineage to the land of your earthly nativity. Jesus said to the Jews, “...You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world” (John 8:23 NASB). He knew He was different. It’s the same with you today. You’re heavenly!

1 Corinthians 15:47 says, “The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven.” Like Jesus, you’re heavenly; that means you’re not subject to this world, its elements or systems. Jesus conquered and subdued this world when He walked the earth. That’s what He expects of you too, because “…as He is, so are we in this world” (1 John 4:17). Christ Jesus, whose image and likeness you bear, is the Lord from heaven and the life-giving Spirit. He’s now your root; you’re connected to, born from, and of Him! Your ties with the first Adam have been severed entirely and forever.

However, those who aren’t born again are earthy. We call them “earthlings”; they’re of this world and are subject to its corrupting influences. This is the reason you must preach the Gospel to everyone in your sphere of contact and beyond, that they may hear

_“...His divine power has bestowed upon us all things that [are requisite and suited] to life and godliness, through the [full, personal] knowledge of Him Who called us by and to His own glory and excellence (virtue).”_

*LET’S TALK*

When a seed is planted, it sprouts, develops a stem, branches, leaves, and eventually, fruits. Question: Where did the stem, leaves, branches and fruits come from? They all came from that little seed! Everything the seed needed to have a normal plant-life, to become a big tree and to reproduce fruits with seeds in them, was in it. All the seed needed was just to be in the right environment.

Being born again, you’re like that little seed, loaded with everything you’ll ever need for growth and success in life. God has given you everything that pertains to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3-4). He’s already done it! You have within you everything you require for an excellent, triumphant, and balanced life. All you’ll be, and have, is in your spirit. Therefore, what you need is to be in the right environment, where you can build the inner you, and hear the right things to help you think the right thoughts, and speak the right words.

This is super important because if you hear the wrong things, you’ll say the wrong words and the result would be the wrong fruits showing up in your life, instead of fruits of righteousness. Here’s the connection: God has given you everything, but the Spirit of God teaches and helps you know the things which God has given you freely in the spirit. You must learn to speak them, as the Spirit gives you utterance in divine wisdom (Read 1 Corinthians 2:12-13). Thus, every so often, say, *“Glorious things are spoken and written of me. I’m a success and a victor; greater is He that’s in me than he that’s in the world. I re
