Echos of Sunday Divine Service 28/12/25
Main Texts: Mark 2:22, Matthew 9:17 Topic: New wine in the place of old wine:
The sermon focused on God’s call for believers to embrace the new things He is doing and to let go of old ways that can no longer contain His move.
From the scripture, three key points were highlighted.First, there is new wine.Second, there is a vessel meant to contain the wine.Third, old and rigid vessels cannot contain new wine.
Meaning of New Wine:New wine represents the new things God wants to release into our lives. God does not want His people to enter the new season, especially 2026, with old ways, old mindsets, or outdated practices. He desires something fresh.
How to Receive the New Wine:The new wine is received by following Christ Jesus. It comes through obedience, relationship, and willingness to walk with Him rather than relying on tradition.
The New Wine Defined:The new wine is the Holy Spirit. In this season, God wants to fill believers afresh with His Spirit, bringing renewal, power, and transformation.
Christianity Versus Religion:Christianity is not religion. Religion forces people to keep laws and traditions. Christianity brings freedom to follow Christ in the right way, not merely through inherited customs.
Christianity gives flexibility in serving God. Old wine represents religion, while new wine represents Christianity. A renewed mindset is needed, moving from rigid traditional thinking to openness in God’s house.
Biblical Examples:David succeeded in battle because he operated in new wine. He always inquired of the Lord and received fresh strategies rather than relying on past methods.
Naaman walked in pride and tradition at first. When he humbled himself and followed the word of God through the prophet, he was renewed and became like a newborn child. To be filled with new wine, one must come out of self and old thinking.
Call to Change:Old wine cannot be put into new wine vessels. To truly serve God, believers must leave old practices and embrace the new life found in Christ. According to 2 Corinthians 5:17, anyone in Christ is a new creation, and newness should be evident in their life.
Self Examination:A key question was asked. If I am truly in Christ, are there new things in my life that reflect God’s glory?
Conclusion:Victory comes when believers leave old ways and embrace the new things God is doing. Transformation requires a renewed heart, mind, and approach to serving God.
Prayers:From Ezekiel 36:26, the church prayed for a new heart. A heart of gratitude, forgiveness, and love. From Psalm 51:10, a prayer for God to create a pure heart and renew a right spirit within us.
