❤️What do I say about the text below?
Jude 1:24–25 “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.”
The first thing to know is that this is a closing declaration of praise. It exalts God’s power to preserve believers.
But to understand it correctly, we must not isolate it. We must read it in light of the preceding verses, where clear responsibilities are given.
This passage holds a balanced truth that you and I can't play around with as servant of God which includes
1. God keeps the believer
2. The believer must respond in obedience
The word keeps speaks of God’s preserving power. It means to guard, to watch over and to sustain. God is the one who ultimately preserves the believer from apostasy and destruction. This aligns with:l
John 10:28–29 “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.”
So the believer’s security is rooted in God’s power, not human strength. So we must continue to depend on God's strength in the journey of salvation
But Jude does not teach passivity. Before this doxology, Jude gives clear instructions.
God’s keeping does not remove human responsibility, it works alongside it. He began in the previous verse by saying we should keep ourselves in the love of God
Jude 1:21.“KEEP YOURSELVES in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.”
The idea of keeping yourselves is very important. This does not contradict God keeping us but it complements it.
This shows that the believer must remain in obedience, continue in faith, and walk in God’s truth.
So if a believer does not keep himself in God's love by being obedient, continuing in faith and walking in the truth which is abiding, what do you think become of such an individual?
God keeps us, but we are not called to be careless. We are called to actively remain aligned with Him.
Jude in the previous verse tells our responsibility after salvation. We abide in God through Jesus Christ by building our faith daily
Jude 1:20 “But ye, beloved, BUILDING UP YOURSELVES on your MOST HOLY FAITH praying in the Holy Ghost.”
Our spiritual stability requires growth. A believer who is not growing is vulnerable to live an unholy life which is the denial of Christ sacrificed.
BUILDING UP YOURSELVES means strengthening your understanding of Scripture, growing in sound doctrine and deepening your spiritual life
God keeps, but the believer must grow. So if when someone rejects the truth, they start living a sinful lifestyle.
Prayer is part of the believer’s responsibility. It is how we depend on God, stay spiritually sensitive, and remain connected to Him
This shows that a prayerless life leads to spiritual weakness, even though God is able to keep.
Jude 1:22–23 “And of some have COMPASSION, making a difference. And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.”
As believers , we are called to discern between different spiritual conditions, help others who are drifting and avoid contamination from sin. What happened to people who keep contamination with sin habitually?
This shows active engagement, not passive Christianity. Passive Christianity is dangerous where we think God saved us to live a loose life without any sense of decorum.
So, Jude 1:24–25 is not teaching careless security but it is declaring confident preservation.
God’s keeping power does not produce laziness but it produces confidence with responsibility. He keeps those who are walking with Him, not those who are careless.
Because in the end the same God who keeps you is the One who calls you to remain in Him but some people can decide not remain because we are free moral beings as He created us and not robots
