First Baptist church niakara THE CATHEDRAL OF JOY AND PEACE

16/02/2026

Soulwinning is not a task reserved only for pastors or church leaders. Every believer is called to share the Gospel through words, actions, and a Christ-like life. When we have experienced God’s grace, we are also entrusted to help others know Christ. Soulwinning is an expression of love and obedience to God’s command to make disciples.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Matthew 28:19

Jesus gave this command to all His followers, reminding us that sharing the message of salvation is the responsibility of every believer, not just a few leaders.

REASONS WHY PEOPLE GET TO THE TOP AND FALL BACK
Take note of the following:

1. UNGUIDED ACCESS BY INHERITANCE.

Anything you get by inheritance, if you are not guided and don’t know how to work, you will lose it all. There are people who inherited great wealth but are very poor today, because they never had the capacity and work ethics to maintain such level of wealth. The prodigal son took his portion of inheritance and in no time was so poor to the point that he was eating with swine (Luke 15:11-15). That was a pure lack of capacity and work ethics to maintain wealth.

2. YOU DIDN’T WORK FOR IT.

Whatever you did not work for, you cannot sustain. Your work is your worth. If you rise to the top without working for it, you are likely to take your position for granted and there goes your fall. Even if God favours you, ensure you put in work to get worth at the top.

3.WRECKLESS LIVING AT THE TOP.

Nothing brings you down to ground zero like wreckless and wasteful living at the top. Again scripture says, the prodigal son lived wrecklessly and wasted all his wealth. Scripture says: And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. Luke 15:13.

4. CONSPIRACY AND BETRAYAL.

You need to learn how to keep out your betrayers. You don’t have that grace like Jesus to keep your Judas and feed him till he betrays you. When you get to a level at the top, when you see your Judas disconnect from him. Don't wait until he kills you with a kiss, you don't have that messaic grace and your assignment is not to die at the hand of betrayers. Scripture says: But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”Luke 22:48.

5. PRIDE.

Pride is the fast lane to a fast fall from the top. Pride is terrible. Once you see men with pride they can never last at the top. Scripture says: Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18.

I prophesy, as God lifts you to the top you shall not fall to nothing. In Jesus name.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗟𝗘𝗘𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗖𝗛𝗨𝗥𝗖𝗛, 𝗪𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗨𝗣.

A lot of churches today, now have more members, but fewer Christians. More buildings, but less relevance. More stories, fewer revelations. More sermons, but less power. More Flesh, less Spirit. The world now has more churches, but less impact. Oh Lord set our hearts on fire 🔥 for you.
Isn't it a shame that people will walk into the church drunk and come out drunk?
Isn't it a shame that people will walk into the church fornicators and come out fornicators?
It's even more shameful that Christians would stay in church, comfortably practicing all manners of ungodliness and wickedness.

The church is full of Christians who are backbiters, backstabbers, haters, covetous, envious, proud, boasters, murderers, and what have you.
They come to church day in, and day out. Week after week, year after year, yet practicing all wicked devices, and there is no transformation, not a smiting of the spirit, not an urge for repentance, because there is no fire to convince them of sin, burn away every strand of ungodliness and compel them to the altar of salvation.

Witches and occultists now come into our churches, sit comfortably and mingle with us, and join us to sing " Hallelujah". Lift their hands in deceitful worship, and even raise their strange voices in prayer, and are not exposed, arrested, and set free by the power of the Holy Ghost, because there is no fire.
We make a mockery of and ridicule the God we claim to worship.
God, bring us to our knees that we may see how wrecked and wretched we are, without your indwelling. Church, enough of the religion, enough of the jamboree, we need real fire. There are Souls to be won, extents to be reached, and there is so much to be done, we just can't afford to do business as usual. We can't continue in coldness and lukewarmness anymore. We are in a crucial time in history where prophecies are fulfilled and God is counting on us. We need fire, the Dynamics of fire attract.
Men can't be attracted to the gospel without the fire. Flames of fire give light, men would be lost without the fire of God in us to direct them. The heat of fire purifies and consumes. Let the fire of God in us, purify and bring forth pure gold. Let it also consume every ungodliness and evil work. The world can't feel the heat of the fire of God if we are not carriers of that fire.
We need the Holy fire of God burning in our hearts; we must take heed lest we be consumed by the flames that should have burned within us.

NIGERIAN BAPTIST CONVENTION POLICY ON CALLING OF PASTORS

In the contemporary time there has been a clear departure from the norm regarding calling of pastors to local Baptist Churches. It is evident that some Churches in need of pastors demand for CVs from numerous pastors. These pastors are invited to preach one at a time while their sermons are examined and graded by members who know next to nothing about hermeneutics (the art and science of interpretation of scriptures) or homiletics (the art of preaching or writing sermons). At the end of the day there is unhealthy competition and rivalry between such pastors interested in pastoring the church in question. By the time one pastor is selected from the lot, the others become envious of his success while some make him their sworn enemy for life. If the Baptist call system is adhered to strictly, some of these misdemeanor will be avoided totally. What therefore is the Baptist Policy on calling of pastors?

The Baptist call system is peculiar and different from that practiced by certain denominations. While some denominations or Christian bodies may operate a call system that involves a central body posting pastors to places of assignment, the Baptist denomination instead allow her local churches to call their own pastors. This is because each local church is autonomous and as a result is empowered to call its own pastor without any form of outside interference. Consequently, in order to examine appropriately the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC) call system, the Beliefs, Policies and Practices of the Nigerian Baptist Convention 2015 must be consulted. In pages 18 and 19 of this document, the calling of a pastor by a church will involve considering the following questions:

"Has prayer for guidance been made? Is the church willing to be led of the Holy Spirit? Has prayerful selection been made of a dependable search committee to represent the congregation in their search for the right person? Has this committee first considered the qualifications of the person best suited to the needs of the church? Has the church renounced all selfish motives? Is she determined to have under consideration only a person at a time? Has she had personal contact with him, perhaps inviting him to the church for conference and acquaintance with the people, yet avoiding all appearance of making him a “candidate”? Unless hindrances develop, would she be willing to recommend his call by the church? If yes, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, the church should go ahead to call him. Has she done underground search to know his/her antecedent (page 18-19)."

The salient questions asked above depict clearly the procedures to be followed in the calling of a pastor to a local Baptist church in the NBC. The procedures for calling a pastor drawn from these questions include the following:

1. Prayer:

There is need for prayer for guidance in selecting a pastor.

2. Leading of the Holy Spirit:

The leading of the Holy Spirit is very important in calling a pastor. The church must be willing to be led by the Holy Spirit in their selection of a new pastor. The leading of the Holy Spirit is necessary because so many other competing variables may want to dictate to the church on how she should go about selecting a new pastor. The leading of the Holy Spirit is foremost in importance in the calling of pastors as well as in the pastor’s consideration of a call. It is not just the church who needs the leading of the Holy Spirit, the pastor also who is receiving such a call should allow the Holy Spirit to lead him or her in accepting or declining. God has a congregation in mind He has prepared for individual pastors to provide leadership. It is the duty of pastors to pray for discernment in order to locate God’s will for them in this regard.

3. Selection of Search Committee:

A dependable search committee should be prayerfully selected to represent the congregation in their search for the right pastor. The selection of the search committee should follow the guidelines set forth in the church’s constitution and bylaws. The congregation will entrust the Search Committee with the responsibility to search for and identify the individual who will be the next pastor and leader of the church. This is ideal because in congregational churches the congregation makes the decision regarding the call of her pastor and what better way can this be done than prayerfully selecting a group from the congregation to constitute the search committee. By so doing this will ensure that the interest of the congregation is protected from being hijacked by individuals.

4. Qualification of the Prospective Pastor:

The qualifications of the pastor best suited to the needs of the church should be considered. Areas to be considered include the type of theological qualification the candidate possesses, the number of years of experience acquired and the candidate’s references. Affirmation of the educational qualification of the would-be pastor in terms of theological training is very important for the following reasons: One, to meet the religious educational yearnings of the congregation. For instance a pastor with certificate in theology may fall short in ministering to a congregation composed of academics. Two, to enable the church know if they can afford the remuneration of the pastor. For example a village church may find it difficult to pay a pastor with a Master degree or Doctoral degree in theology. In addition, the years of experience of the would-be pastor is significant especially for a church that has been in existence for a long time. Equally important is the persons who recommended such a pastor in his or her references. Churches tend to acknowledge recommendations from proven leaders.

5. Renouncing Selfish Motive:

The church should renounce all selfish motives in the calling of a new pastor. It is imperative that the church allows the Holy Spirit to lead in the call of a pastor to forestall any form of self-interest that is carnally motivated. There have been cases were churches seek the services of a pastor in order to bask in his or her popularity and qualification. Such churches feel their image can be enhanced by calling a popular pastor. God’s leading would reduce to a barest minimum the propensity of the church to be selfish in its search for a new pastor.

6. Inviting One Candidate at a Time:

The church should determine to consider only a person at a time in the search for a new pastor. I have observed that in the contemporary time, some churches invite more than one pastor for trial sermons after which the best preacher is chosen to pastor the church. This in some instances has amounted to lobbying of search committee members. If the church can genuinely seek God’s face, God can reveal the pastor He has in mind for the church in question. Since the process of calling a pastor is quite different from that of employing a secular worker, it would be wrong for the church to adopt the same process as a secular organization which involves mass interview of potential candidates.

7. Establishing Contact with the Pastoral Candidate:

The church should have personal contact with the prospective pastor, inviting him to the church for conference and acquaintance with the congregation, yet avoiding all appearance of making him feel he has been endorsed. The church should be wary of any action or pronouncement that may be misunderstood by a candidate to mean he or she has been validated. During interaction it should be clearly communicated to the would-be pastor that the search committee do not have the final say rather the church will be the one to ultimately agree on the suitability of his or her candidacy. Giving a pastor a false sense of approval and acceptance should be prohibited during the interview process.

8. Surreptitious Investigation:

The church should have carried out a covert fact finding mission to know the would-be pastor’s antecedence. The search committee should seek to obtain further information about a pastor they are interested in. Such information should center on the pastor’s educational background, theological training, marital situation and effectiveness in ministry. This fact finding mission connotes the vigilance of the church in quietly finding out information about a prospective pastoral candidate. In so doing, care must be taken to ensure that information is gotten from the right quarters. This will entail that the right persons are contacted, persons who are above reproach. Also, places of past assignment could be contacted.

9. Extending of formal Call:

Once the above processes have been followed and the pastor in question found to meet the criteria, then a letter of call is extended to the pastor. The letter of call should show clearly the remuneration of the pastor as well as his or her salary grade level and step. The search committee should also state clearly the church expectations of the new pastor. Such expectations should correlate with the mission and vision statement of the church. This would form the basis of evaluating the performance of the pastor and will help the new pastor to have focus and directive in carrying out his or her ministerial responsibilities.

It is my belief that if the above processes as spelt out in the NBC policies and practices are followed strictly by NBC churches, then the calling of pastors would be devoid of unethical practices.

HOW TO SUSTAIN THE LOCAL BAPTIST CHURCH BEYOND TITHE AND OFFERING

Many Baptist churches apart from looking up to God, depend on tithe and offering and as the economy suffers, the church also suffers along. How then can a church be existentially sustained financially beyond tithe and offering? the following are some ways:

1. SCHOOLS: Churches can open mission schools thereby making money alongside shaping lives
2. LOCKUP SHOPS: Churches can build and rent out lockup shops especially churches located in townships
3. REAL ESTATE: Churches could invest in landed properties as well as residential quarters
4. CROP FARMING: Village churches with large parcels of land can do large scale farming
6. FISH FARMING: Churches can also invest in fish farming which may also help in employing some nembers
7. POULTRY: Churches could invest in poultry targeting festive seasons for brisk businesses
8. POS BUSINESS: A Church with POS stands can make some money with members as customers
9. BOOKSHOP: Churches with lockup shops can use one as a bookshop to sell literatures
10. FOREX TRADING: The church could invest in forex trading but care must be taken to use believers who are experts
11. PUBLIC TOILETS: Churches can build public toilet where people pay a token to ease themselves
12. SACHET AND BOTTLED WATER BUSINESS: A church can embark on production of sachet and bottled water
13. CHAIRS AND CANOPY RENTALS: Churches can buy chairs and canopy for rentals
14. HALL RENTALS: Churches could build halls to be used for event centres
15. INSTRUMENT RENTALS: Churches could buy speakers, amplifiers and complete sound systems for rentals

Conclusively, the above are some deliberate ways churches can increase their income aside tithe and offering, however, care must be taken not to pay more attention to making money than the primary assignment of winning souls.

01/10/2025

We are in the days of an evil generation where some youths are abusive, corrosive, destructive in words, and rebellious against parents, morally filthy, and full of pride. These habits are poisonous to the community and make it unhabitable.

This does not exempt youths who are believers. There is a need for urgent repentance and quick restitution for youths who are believers trapped in this peril of the end time to be delivered from these four evils in this generation [Prov. 30:11-14].

Your natural and spiritual birth set you in families. Your biological family is not your choice, nor is your spiritual family your choice. Hence, you're expected to value these relationships, and from there, you are to build other strategic relationships that God will bring along your paths for you to be socially wealthy.

Social wealth includes having meaningful relationships and a strong support network. It is your network that determines your net worth. Social wealth provides opportunities for personal and professional growth, status, and a sense of connection.

All the Kingdom youths who were rich in God, lived significantly, they made their marks and left good and eternal legacies through social wealth. This included Christ, our LORD. We are in Christ today because of Jesus' social wealth.

You can't afford to be socially poor. It will spell both ephemeral and eternal doom on you. GOD BLESS YOU ALL
