Le Centre Bouddhiste International de Genève existe depuis 1992, sous la direction du Vénérable Bhante Dhammika, moine bouddhiste sri-lankais de tradition Theravada (Theravada veut dire tradition des aînés qui gardent l'enseignement authentique du Bouddha sans aucune modification). Bhante Dhammika est moine depuis l'âge de onze ans. Il a étudié le bouddhisme, le pâli et le sanskrit avec son Maître
Vén Pémananda. Ensuite, il a poursuivi ses études à l'université du Sri Lanka puis à la Sorbonne où il a étudié la philosophie comparée. Son assistant, Bhante Sujatha a suivi le même parcours avec le même Maître. Il est aussi diplômé de l'université du Sri Lanka. Le troisième membre de notre Sangha est le moine Suisse Lakkhano, le disciple de Bhante Nyanadharo de Tournon, Bhante Dhammika et de Bhante Sujatha, va aussi participer activement à toutes les activités du Centre. Outre les activités citées dans le programme, le centre s'occupe des cérémonies de bénédiction pour les naissances, les mariages, les anniversaires, l'accompagnement des malades, mourants ainsi que des services funéraires. Ces services sont ouverts à tous, quelque soit leur religion. Le Centre participe à l'aumônerie de l'Hôpital Cantonal Universitaire de Genève et fonctionne aussi comme membre fondateur de la Plateforme Interreligieuse de Genève. The International Buddhist Center of Geneva was founded in 1992. The center offers activities in all Buddhist traditions and welcomes all interreligious engagements. Bhante Dhammika, the founder of the International Buddhist Center, has been a monk in the Sri Lankan Theravada tradition since the age of eleven. After completing the traditional monastic training and studying Buddhism, Pali and Sanskrit under his Master Vén Pémananda, he went to university. There he studied sociology and continued on to do comparative philosophy at the Sorbonne. Dr. Bhante Dhammika is a Buddhist counselor at the Geneva Cantonal Hospital as well as a founding member of the Interreligious Platform of Geneva. Bhante Sujatha is the assistant monk at the center and was ordained at the age of eleven. He completed his traditional monastic training under the same Master, studying Buddhism, Pali and Sanskrit. Then he went the the university in Sri Lanka; he holds a B.A. The other member of the Sangha, the Swiss monk Lakkhano, is a disciple of Bhante Nyanadharo, Bhante Dhammika and Bhante Sujatha. He actively participates in all the activities of the center. Apart from the activities mentioned in the program, the center also performs special blessing ceremonies for births, marriages, birthdays, for the sick and the dying as well as funeral services irrespective of religious beliefs or convictions.
