A local group is hoping to bring Christians together in unity and prayer, no matter their denomination or background. "Upper Room Prayer was birthed out of spending quiet time with the Lord when I was at the University of Winnipeg," says Meseret Alem, the founder of the group. "I was praying in a ch...

Hiiii friends! ☺️✨

It’s been quiet around here lately but we’ve definitely been at work behind the scenes! More to come. But we’re just so pumped for this new season and all that Holy Spirit has in store for the Church of Winnipeg! Cool story: apparently, the Lord’s been stirring the hearts of young adults around the city and province, and there’s a new HUNGER to pray and walk in the fullness of Christ! 🤩 (also more to come!)

Any whooo, just here to drop this little info here. Next gathering is in exactly two short weeks, so hopefully we’ll see y’all in person soon! 🤍

Happy Father’s Day! 🎉

• To the biological dads; the stepdads; the spiritual dads, and; the surrogate dads. We see you. We love you. We appreciate you. THANK YOU for faithfully fulfilling your callings.

• Swipe left to see a photo of some of the fathers from UpperRoom Prayer! Happy father’s days to you three, and every other father a part of UpperRoom. We celebrate you today. 🤍🤗

• We recognize that Father’s Day is a bittersweet day. To those spending this day without a father — we see you, too. We pray you’re enveloped with the Father’s love today and everyday.

“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.” ~ Psalm 68:5

A most disturbing discovery. You probably have already heard of the finding of 215 children buried on a residential school grounds in Kamloops, B.C.

We recognize, with heavy hearts, that the Church played a huge role in carrying out the abuse and killings of Indigenous children through the Residential Schools.

UpperRoom Prayer Wpg’s mission is to usher in revival to our city (through unity). But we cannot do that unless we first repent of our sins. In fact, Jesus says this of repentance: “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.” ~ Matthew 5:23-24

Church, let us mourn today with our Indigenous brothers and sisters.

Church, let us repent today for the sins of those before us.

Church, let us put our repentance into action and work towards reconciliation.

We are the Church. We urge you to lift up our Indigenous communities in your prayers. Today, and always, we will “[r]ejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.” ~ Romans 12:15

✨Get to know our community✨

A personal favourite to some of us from UP is the diversity in our gatherings. And we don’t just mean diversity in our ethnicities and languages. But also diversity in age, socioeconomic status, gifts (skills), life experiences, and callings.

We have people of African-descent, Asian-descent, European-descent and Indigenous peoples, coming together as one; and if you live in Winnipeg, you understand the significance. Why are we mentioning this? Because:

1. This is a glimpse of heaven!
“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands,” (Rev 7:9)

2. Jesus is made known through our unity and love for one another
“I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” (John 17:22-23)

This is Kingdom. 🌈

✨Sooo, what is sabbath anyway? Is it still relevant today? ✨
Simply put, sabbath means to “stop working.” Like, God ‘stopped working,’ after the sixth day of creation. But are you familiar with the word, nuakh? Nuakh is another main Hebrew word for rest. It means to settle down. Like, God settles Adam and Eve, to dwell with Him.

Have you had those days where you’re not working but you feel far from rested? You’re home all day but you feel just as tired? Here’s the truth, God doesn’t just call us to stop working solely to not work; He calls us to stop working so we may dwell with Him. That can look like reading your bible alone or a bible study group; praise and worship through songs; quiet time with Jesus; volunteering at a soup kitchen; helping your elderly neighbour with their grocery (which are all expressions of worship), and; spending quality time with your loved ones. We think sabbath is still relevant today because it’s really hard to love your neighbour when you’re grumpy from lack of rest. 😉

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-30).

How will you be resting this week? Have you learned anything new from this post?

Hello friends! 🤗
When was the last time someone encouraged you in your faith? When was the last time you had an intimate conversation with another believer, where you felt a burden lifted off your chest?
Life can be so brutal sometimes, especially now. The Christian walk was never designed to be walked alone. We all need community. Please check in on your family/friends/community. Hopefully someone is checking in on you as well. If you’d like to join a community of like-minded believers, please join us for our next prayer gathering and we’ll help you find one.

You’re worthy to be seen and heard, friend. We hope this scripture fills you with encouragement today. If you’d like someone to pray with/for you, please reach out to us, as well. 🤍

He is risen, friends! And He lives in you and me! ✨

As you rejoice today, we want to encourage you to allow Jesus to live out through you this week, in 3 practical ways. (Eg. running an errand for your elders/parents or making time to reach out to your isolated friend(s). Whatever the Lord has placed on your heart to do.)

03/29/2021

Come join us for prayer this month!
We look forward to seeing you.
