Blessed Holy Week Everyone!

Here's a few announcements heading into the weekend.

Titus will be leading the conversation this Sunday for Easter 10am at 1709 George Ave. We look forward to hearing what everyone has to share. The service will end with communion together.

Mission Statement:
Windsor Mennonite Fellowship is a Jesus-centred community rooted in Anabaptist values, where faith is deepened through:
dialogue,
discipleship,
shared rituals,
shared life,
and a shared commitment to living justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God.

Vision Statement:
That Windsor Mennonite Fellowship be a sacred space embodying relationships of reconciliation with God, self, neighbour, and creation, while inviting others to participate in this alternative “Kin’dom” and way of life. Through the love of God, the way of Jesus, and the power of the Holy Spirit, we aspire to be a people who nurture safety in belonging and inner transformation, that we may be a community of justice, joy, hospitality, and peace together.

Merry Christmas from all of us at Windsor Mennonite Fellowship. May we be a people who don’t merely celebrate Christmas, but live its message.

Merry Christmas! We hope this season brings you joy, peace, and light as we reflect collectively on the deeper teachings of Christmas. May the music of liberation be the sounds of our season.

A PRAYER FOR ADVENT
by Howard Thurman

"May the sounds of Advent stir a longing in your people, O God.
Come again to set us free from the dullness of routine and the poverty of our imaginations. Break the patterns which bind us to small commitments and to the stale answers we have given to questions of no importance. Let the Advent trumpet blow, let the walls of our defences crumble, and make a place in our lives for the freshness of your love, well-lived in the Spirit, and still given to all who know their need and dare receive it."

The sacred season of Advent has begun.
You are welcome to join our community of faith as we gather on Sunday mornings at 10 AM.

September 30th is National Day for Truth & Reconciliation. WMF joins others in lamenting, repenting, commemorating, and working together for a just community, where genocidal systems like residential schools never happen again.

It is important to repudiate the lies, myths, minimizations, and untruths about the residential school system in Canada- untruths which are sometimes even perpetuated through churches. Below are slides addressing some of these myths. (from the Canadian Museum for Human Rights: IG: .ca)

As followers of Jesus, we have a sacred responsibility to walk in humble right-relationship with our Indigenous neighbours, especially when our churches have historically been complicit in these evil systems.

We call on ALL local churches to publicly lament, repent, repudiate the doctrine of discovery, and join us in following the 94 Calls to Action developed by the TRC.

Workshop with Pastor Rielly: "The Wheel"
Saturday, July 19th (1:00 - 3:30 PM)
Location: Windsor Mennonite Fellowship, 1709 George Ave.

Dr. Corrine Ware, building on the work of Dr. Urban T. Holmes's phenomenology of prayer, developed a theory called Spiritual Types, which offers a helpful lens for understanding the diverse ways people experience and express their spirituality (individually and congregationally). Rielly will share his own version of this typology and (with some guidance) help you draw a picture of your spirituality using the image of a wheel.

This wheel identifies four primary spiritual sectors/types. Each type represents a stream of historic Christian spirituality and a particular path to encountering the divine, shaped by our natural inclinations toward thinking, feeling, contemplation, and action. The Wheel can help enrich our own spiritual lives, recognize our growing edges, foster empathy and understanding for differences, with the hope of creating a more interconnected, self-aware, and vibrant congregation.

The workshop is free, and all are welcome!

A SABBATH SUMMER at WMF

During July and August, we rest from our regular Sunday morning services and instead gather around neighbourhood tables: backyard parties, shared meals, outdoor concerts, and spiritual formation workshops.

WMF is not closed; we only change form to rest, regroup, and together encounter God outside the religious 'goods and services' of Sunday morning.

If you'd like to know more, send us a message!
Pastor Rielly and the leadership are also available if you need support throughout the summer months.

“In our own contemporary context of the rat race of anxiety, the celebration of Sabbath is an act of both resistance and alternative. It is resistance because it is a visible insistence that our lives are not defined by the production and consumption of commodity goods...
..The Sabbath rest of God is the acknowledgment that God and God’s people in the world are not commodities to be dispatched for endless production and so dispatched, as we used to say, as “hands” in the service of a command economy. Rather they are subjects situated in an economy of neighborliness. All of that is implicit in the reality and exhibit of divine rest.”

Canadian Moderator for Mennonite Church Canada, Geraldine Balzer, has written a letter on our behalf to Prime Minister Carney expressing concern over funding for military efforts.

A church committed to the way of Jesus has a responsibility to speak truth to power when injustice and violence are the dominant narratives.
