GOD’S PLAN FOR YOUR FAMILY

Psalm 127:1 “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city the watchman stays awake in vain.”

As you consider God's purpose for your own life, you must also consider how your plans will affect the most important people that God has entrusted to your care: your loved ones.
A loving family is a treasure from God. If you happen to be a member of a close knit, supportive clan, offer a word of thanks to your Creator. He has blessed you with one of His most precious earthly possessions. Your obligation, in response to God's gift, is to treat your family in ways that are consistent with His commandments. So, as you prayerfully seek God's direction, remember that He has important plans for your home life as well as your professional life. It’s up to you to act - and to plan - accordingly.
Living life with a consistent spiritual walk deeply influences those we love most.

DISCIPLINE YOURSELF

1 Timothy 4:7 NASB “Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness.”

Are you a self-disciplined person? If so, congratulations ...your disciplined approach to life can help you build a more meaningful relationship with God. Why? Because God expects all His believers (including you) to lead lives of disciplined obedience to Him... and He rewards those believers who do.
Sometimes, it's hard to be dignified and disciplined. Why? Because you live in a world where many prominent people want you to believe that dignified, self-disciplined behaviour is going out of style. But don’t deceive yourself: self-discipline never goes out of style.
Your greatest accomplishments will probably require plenty of work and a heaping helping of self-discipline which, by the way, is perfectly fine with God. After all, He knows that you're up to the task, and He has big plans for you. God will do His part to fulfil those plans, and the rest, of course, depends upon you. The apostle Paul confessed in 1Cor. 9:27 “I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”
Remember, nothing of value is ever acquired without discipline.

CONSTANT PRAISE

Heb. 13:15 “Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to
God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.”

The Bible makes it clear: it pays to praise God. But sometimes, we allow ourselves to become so preoccupied with the demands of daily life that we forget to say “Thank You” to the Giver of all good gifts.
Worship and praise should be a part of everything we do. Otherwise, we quickly lose perspective as we fall prey to the demands of the moment.
Do you sincerely desire to be a worthy servant of the One who has given you eternal love and eternal life? Then praise Him for who He is and for what He has done for you. Praise Him all day long every day, for as long as you live...and then for all eternity.
Praise opens the window of our hearts, preparing us to walk more closely with God. Prayer raises the window of our spirit, enabling us to listen more clearly to the Father.

A PRESCRIPTION FOR PANIC

Pro. 12:25 NKJV “Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad.”

We live in a world that sometimes seems to shift beneath our feet. We live in an uncertain world, a world where tragedies can befall even the most godly among us. And we are members of an anxious society, a society in which the changes we face threaten to outpace our abilities to make adjustments. No wonder we sometimes find ourselves beset by feelings of anxiety and panic.
At times, our anxieties may stem from physical causes - chemical imbalances in the brain that result in severe emotional distress or relentless panic attacks. In such cases, modern medicine offers hope to those who suffer. But oftentimes, our anxieties result from spiritual deficits, not physical ones. And when we’re spiritually depleted, the best prescription is found not in the medicine cabinet but deep inside the human heart. What we need is a higher daily dose of God's love, God's peace, God's assurance, and God's presence. And how do we acquire these blessings from our Creator? Through prayer, through meditation, through worship, and through trust.

FINDING CONTENTMENT

Philippians 4.11-12 (NIV) “I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.”

Where can we find contentment? Is it a result of wealth, or power, or beauty, or fame? Hardly. Genuine contentment is a gift from God to those who trust Him and follow His commandments.
Our modern world seems preoccupied with the search for happiness. We are bombarded with messages telling us that happiness depends upon the acquisition of material possessions. These messages are false. Enduring peace is not the result of our acquisitions; it is a spiritual gift from God to those who obey Him and accept His will.
If we don’t find contentment in God, we will never find it anywhere else. But, if we seek Him and obey Him, we will be blessed with an inner peace that is beyond human understanding. When God dwells at the centre of our lives, peace and contentment will belong to us just as surely as we belong to God.

A THANKFUL HEART

Hebrews 12:28 (NIV) “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.”

Sometimes, life here on earth can be complicated, demanding and frustrating. When the demands of life leave us rushing from place to place with scarcely a moment to spare, we may fail to pause and thank our Creator for the countless blessings He bestows upon us. But, whenever we neglect to give proper thanks to the Giver of all things good, we suffer because of our misplaced priorities.
As believers who have been saved by a risen Christ, we are blessed beyond human comprehension. We who have been given so much should make thanksgiving a habit, a regular part of our daily routines. Of course, God's gifts are too numerous to count, but we should attempt to count them nonetheless. We owe our Heavenly Father everything, including our eternal praise . .. starting right now.

GOD’S GUIDANCE

Psalm 37:23 “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD.”

God is intensely interested in each of us, and He will guide our steps if we serve Him obediently. When we sincerely offer heartfelt prayers to our Heavenly Father, He will give direction and meaning to our lives but He won't force us to follow Him. To the contrary, God has given us the free will to follow His commandments . . . or not.
When we stray from God's commandments, we invite bitter consequences. But, when we follow His commandments, and when we genuinely and humbly seek His will, He touches our hearts and leads us on the path of His choosing.
Will you trust God to guide your steps? You should. When you entrust your life to Him completely and without reservation, God will give you the strength to meet any challenge, the courage to face any trial, and the wisdom to live in His righteousness and in His peace. So trust Him today and seek His guidance. When you do, your next step will be the right one.

WAITING FOR GOD

Lamentations 3:25-26 “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”

We human beings are so impatient. We know what we want, and we know exactly when we want it: RIGHT NOW! But, God knows better. He has created a world that unfolds according to His own timetable, not ours.
As Christians, we must be patient as we wait for God to show us the wonderful plans that He has in store for us. And while we’re waiting for God to make His plans clear, let's keep praying and keep giving thanks to the One who has given us more blessings than we can count.
God knows exactly how much you can take, and He will never permit you to reach a breaking point.

TOO MANY POSSESSIONS

1Tim. 6:6-8 “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and it is certain we can take nothing out. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.”

On the grand stage of a well-lived life, material possessions should play a rather small role. Of course, we all need the basic necessities of life, but once we meet those needs for ourselves and for our families, the piling up of possessions creates more problems than it solves. Our real riches, of course, are not of this world. We are never really rich until we are rich in spirit.
How much stuff is too much stuff? Well, if your desire for stuff is getting in the way of your desire to know God, then you've got too much stuff - it's as simple as that. So, if you find yourself wrapped up in the concerns of the material world, it’s time to reorder your priorities. And, it's time to begin storing up riches that will endure throughout eternity - the spiritual kind.
Greed is evil because it substitutes material things for the place of honour that the Creator ought to have in an individual's life. That’s why the Bible equates greed with idolatry. Col. 3:5 “Therefore put to death …. greed, which is idolatry.”
