Assalamu Alaikum Brothers & Sisters,

The Sri Lanka Muslim Society of British Columbia (SLMSBC) is pleased to share an update on Phase 03 of our Flood Relief Initiative – “Uplifting Livelihoods & Supporting Local Businesses.”

In partnership with Canadian humanitarian organization Droplets of Mercy (dropletsofmercy.org), operating across 20+ countries, we successfully completed the distribution of livelihood assistance to 24 beneficiaries to help strengthen and rebuild their small businesses.

This meaningful initiative would not have been possible without the generous support and valuable contributions from our community members. On behalf of all the beneficiaries and their families, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed towards bringing hope and smiles back into their lives.

Assalāmu 'alaykum wa rahmatullāhi wa barakātuh

Dear brothers and sisters of the Sri Lankan Muslim community,

I hope this message finds you and your families well, in sha Allah.

In shā Allah, I will be leading a Mercy Trip to Sri Lanka this summer — June 14 to 20, 2026 — in partnership with Droplets of Mercy, a registered Canadian Islamic charity.

Over 5 days, our group will be visiting orphanages, working on clean water and sanitation (WASH) projects, distributing food parcels, running children's workshops, and spending meaningful time with local families in need.

Sri Lanka holds a special place in my heart, as the Sri Lankan community has always welcomed me with open arms — and I know it holds an even deeper place in yours. What better way to give back to the land of your roots than to go there as a servant of Allah, bringing relief, joy, and hope to those who need it most?

I would love for some of you to join me on this blessed journey.

Here's a quick breakdown of what's covered and what isn't:

Battle of Badr

The Battle of Badr was the first major military confrontation in Islamic history, fought on March 13, 624 CE (17 Ramadan, 2 AH) near Badr in present-day Saudi Arabia. It pitted the early Muslim community of Medina, led by the Prophet Muhammad, against the Quraysh tribe of Mecca. The Muslim victory was a decisive turning point that established Islam’s political and moral footing in Arabia.

Key facts

Date: 17 Ramadan 2 AH / March 13, 624 CE

Location: Badr, southwest of Medina (modern Saudi Arabia)

Muslim force: ≈ 313 men, 70 camels, 2–3 horses

Quraysh force: ≈ 1,000 men, 100 horses, 700 camels

Outcome: Muslim victory; 70 Quraysh killed, 70 captured; 14 Muslims martyred
