Faith lived every day, in every season.

During this 800th anniversary year, we’re taking time to reflect on the life and teachings of St. Francis and the spirit of humility, faith and service that continues to guide our parish today.

These photos from 2007 are such a nice snapshot of parish life at SFA. Fr. Ponti and parishioners gathered in the garden for food, conversation and time together. Nothing fancy, just the kind of afternoon that becomes part of a community’s shared memory.

Do you recognize anyone in these photos? Add their names in the comments, and let us know if you remember this garden gathering or others like it.

On January 22, 1977, Antonio and Luisa Marino were married at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, with Fr. Rosaia as the officiating priest and celebrant.

Their wedding is another cherished chapter in the 90-year story of faith, family and community at SFA.

Some moments become part of a parish’s story simply because families choose to celebrate them here. On September 25, 1976, Elida and Mario Turco were married at St. Francis of Assisi, with Fr. Rosaia celebrating their wedding.

Nearly 50 years later, their wedding day is part of the many family milestones woven into SFA’s 90-year history.

As we mark 800 years since the death of St. Francis of Assisi, his message of peace, compassion and love feels as relevant as ever.
May we look for small ways to bring peace into our homes, our parish and our wider community.

On the first day of a new school year, we look back at St. Francis of Assisi School as it appeared when it opened in 1947.

The school was built through the cooperation, hard work and generosity of the parish community. Nearly 80 years later, it remains a bright light within SFA, helping generations of children grow through faith, learning, compassion and service.

We welcome our students, families, teachers and staff back to school and wish everyone a happy and successful year ahead.

Scriptural Reflection

“You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for the house of Israel…” - Ezekiel 33:7

Many of us are generous with our gifts. However, many of us are not generous in proportion to the gifts we have been given. How often do we give at the minimum level required? Remember, the Lord calls us to nurture and develop our gifts and to give back with increase. He calls us to be generous with all the gifts, especially the one that means the most to us.

Dear Parishioners,

Along with this week’s bulletin, we’ve included the Prayer for Renewal in the Archdiocese of Vancouver, which Archbishop Smith has asked all parishes to incorporate into their Sunday Masses.

As the Archdiocesan Renewal Process continues, we are invited to unite our hearts in a common spirit of prayer. This Renewal Prayer calls upon the Holy Spirit to refresh our parishes, clergy, schools, stewardship, liturgical life, and missionary discipleship. Renewal is ultimately the Lord’s work, and true transformation begins with prayerful openness to the Spirit.

All parishes have been asked to pray the Renewal Prayer at Sunday Masses twice each month, ordinarily after the Prayer of the Faithful. We will begin this Sunday and continue every other week. Cards with the prayer are available at the back of the church, and copies will be placed in the pews in the coming weeks.
By praying this together, we remember that renewal is not simply administrative—it is a spiritual journey calling each of us to deeper holiness, discipleship, and mission.

Thank you for joining us in this prayer as we seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit for our parish and our Archdiocese.
Have a beautiful long weekend.

A simple reminder from the prayer associated with St. Francis: to turn our attention outward, to love generously and to care for one another.

As we commemorate the 800th anniversary of St. Francis, we continue to reflect on the values that have shaped our parish and our patron saint’s enduring example.

A lot of parish memories were made around the kitchen table. These photos capture SFA parishioners preparing pizzas together, another example of the time, work and good food that have brought the community together over the years.

Do you recognize anyone here? Add their names in the comments. And who remembers buying SFA pizza?
If you have memories or photos from parish fundraisers like this, we’d love to see them.
