Hunger Bites: DT Our mandate is to fundraise money through events every month to buy ingredients, cook and serve at-risk individuals in the Downtown Eastside.

The mandate of Hunger Bites is to fundraise money through events (e.g. bake sales, car washes). With this money, we will buy and gather ingredients, cook, and serve lunch to at-risk individuals in the Downtown Eastside. Monthly feeds are held at the First United Church in the Downtown Eastside. We serve to 300-400 individuals at each meal, therefore at least $400 dollars must be raised every month

. Though our purpose does not help diminish the problem of hunger, our mission is to raise awareness throughout our school and community. Unlike traditional food drives, (having to send in gathered food and money to another organization) we utilize the fundraised money directly. Not only are our members allowed a chance to witness the effect of our efforts, but also a temporary relief is given to individuals. Hunger Bites was created at David Thompson by two students and the social justice teacher (at the time) in December of 2010.
