Dear members of UTBLC,

Our beloved founder of Fo Guang Shan, Venerable Master Hsing Yun has passed on February 5, 2023 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, at the age of 97.

Venerable Master Hsing Yun devoted his life to the propagation of Humanistic Buddhism and the realization of the Fo Guang Pure Land. In the past 56 years since the founding of Fo Guang Shan, he had established over 300 temples worldwide and founded five universities in Taiwan, USA, Australia, and the Philippines, as well as the Buddha’s Light International Association with millions of members. Countless people have benefited from his compassionate endeavors.

The University of Toronto Buddha’s Light Club seeks to provide U of T students with the opportunity to meet regularly in a supportive group setting to practice meditation, discuss Humanistic Buddhism, and develop friendships. There is a profound need for all of us to maintain a balance between the mind and the body. We believe we can help all Chinese students in the following ways:
🙏Deal with stress and other negative states of mind in a productive manner.
🙏Learn about our negative states of mind through the lens of Buddhist teachings and
practices.
🙏Foster compassion, loving joy, and equanimity in our daily lives.
🙏To promote Humanistic Buddhism.
🙏To encourage students to say good words, think good thoughts, do good deeds.
